[edit] History
The University of Nice was officially founded on October the 23rd 1965. However, its predecessor can be traced back to the 17th century with the Collegium Jurisconsultorum Niciensium, founded in 1635 by the Prince of Savoie, that became an important school of law, jurisdiction and consultancy. The official founding of the University of Nice in 1965 made it a multidisiplinary university, existing of the faculty of letters, sciences, law, and economics. In 1989, the University of Nice added Sophia Antipolis to the name to show its relation with the Sophia Antipolis technology park.

The university is dispersed over three main historic campuses: the Valrose campus (Sciences), the Trotabas campus (Law, Economics and Management) and the Carlone campus (Letters, Arts and Humanities).
However the university operates on several secondary locations like the new Saint-Jean d'Angely campus in Nice and Sophia Antipolis or Villefranche-sur-Mer outside Nice.
