University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance

The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance is an undergraduate and graduate institution for the performing arts in the United States. It is part of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and is one of the most prestigious performing arts schools in the nation. The School of Music, Theatre & Dance is headed by Christopher Kendall, dean. Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity was founded at the School of Music on June 12, 1903.
The School is located on the University of Michigan's North Campus, which is also home to the College of Engineering, the School of Information, and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
The school was named "School of Music", until July 1, 2006, when it was changed to "School of Music, Theatre & Dance". [1]

Fifteen departments make up the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. They include:
- The Department of Composition - Faculty include Michael Daugherty, William Bolcom, Evan Chambers, Erik Santos, Bright Sheng, Susan Botti and Danel Worley. Recent Visiting Professors of Composition have included Betsy Jolas and Karen Tanaka.
- The Department of Conducting - A graduate-only program. Faculty include Jerry O. Blackstone, Scott Bersaglia, Andrew George, Michael Haithcock, Kenneth Kiesler, Theodore Morrison, Jamie Nix, Paul Rardin, Susan Walton, and Marianne Ploger Hill.

Associated Faculty includes, Caroline Coade, Robert Culver and Kathryn Votapek. In the Fall of 2006, the Takacs Quartet will be the visiting ensemble-in-residence.
