TV 2 Zulu

Our mission is to produce good quality TV at a time when it's getting more and more difficult to satisfy viewers. Denmark has some of the world's best viewers: whatever other education they've got, Danes definitely have one of the world's best educations in tv-viewing.

It's not that we've got lots of money (insert the whining violins here!) but that doesn't scare us. The Danish education grant and loan schemes are as familiar to us as our own back pockets and we know how to make good with little.

It's hard to say what good TV is, but it's easy to recognise it when you see it. To get the idea, watch TV 2 Zulu!

We've long been thinking about giving TV 2 Zulu a tag line, a slogan that would capture the essence of the channel. We've chewed on lines like The Tongue-in-Cheek Channel, The Channel with Personality, or simply The Classroom Comedian. But we felt that everything we came up with was either too sassy or too vague. Suddenly Director Keld Reinecke thought of something: How about TV 2 Zulu - because we love TV? It actually fits - and it's true!

TV 2 Zulu consists of a small group of people who love to watch tv, and who really love to make tv. Our range of programmes reflects this spirit.

Why is it called Zulu? Does it involve Africans with spears?, you may wonder. TV 2 stands for the quality-conscious and unpretentious, as we know it from TV 2 Denmark. Zulu signals the channel's peculiarity and difference. The name is taken from the Phonetic Alphabet where Z is Zulu (Danes who survived the 1980s may still know the Phonetic Alphabet by heart from the song Alpha, Bravo, Charlie by Danish rock band Kliché).

The channel is called TV 2 Zulu because it's easy to remember and because it's fun - and because it makes you ask about the name!

TV 2 Zulu is for viewers who want to watch high quality TV: good movies, tv-series and new innovative Danish programmes. Its target audience are the 15 to 40-year-olds but includes viewers of all ages who're young at heart. The channel aims to be full of surprises, show strong personality and positively beam with enjoyment of life.

Our programme policy is the highest common denominator which will probably invite criticism from some quarters, but we believe it's a good place to start. Common denominator states that it is unsnobbish TV for all. Highest means that we strive to show only the best, be it movies, documentaries, comedies or trailers.

Whether we'll ever have a proper tag line is hard to say. Maybe we don't need one. In the meantime we can stand up proud (no spears needed) and say: TV 2 Zulu - because we love TV.
