• September 1, 1984 - Typhoon Ike (track pictured), also called Typhoon Nitang made landfall in the eastern Philippines with winds of 230 km/h (145 mph). Ike killed between 1000 and 3000 people in the Philippines and China.

• September 2, 1937 - The Hong Kong Typhoon of 1937 hit Hong Kong, killing over 11,000 in the British colony (now part of China).

• September 3, 1935 - The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 hit the Florida Keys as a Category 5 hurricane with a central pressure of 892 mbar (hPa), making it the most intense hurricane to hit the United States. It caused over $40 million of damage in Florida (pictured).

• September 4, 1930 - The 1930 Dominican Republic Hurricane crossed over Hispaniola, killing between 2000 and 8000 people, mostly in the Dominican Republic (pictured).

• September 5, 2004 - Hurricane Frances (pictured) hit Florida just three weeks after Hurricane Charley had struck the state. Frances caused about $10 billion in damages.

• September 8, 1900 - The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 struck Galveston, Texas, (pictured) with winds in excess of 150 mph (240 km/h). The hurricane is the deadliest in the history of the United States and killed over 8000 people.

• September 9, 1965 - Hurricane Betsy hit Louisiana as a Category 3 hurricane, flooding much of New Orleans (pictured). Betsy was the first hurricane to cause over $1 billion of damages.

• September 10, 2003 - Typhoon Maemi (pictured) reached its peak strength to the east of Taiwan. Maemi killed 115 and caused over $4 billion in damage, mostly in South Korea.

• September 11, 1992 - Hurricane Iniki (pictured) hit the Hawaiian island of Kauai with winds of 140 mph (225 km/h). Iniki is the strongest and costliest hurricane to strike the state, causing $1.8 billion of damage.

• September 17, 2004 - Hurricane Jeanne passed over Hispaniola, bringing intense rain to the island. The rains caused severe flooding in Haiti (pictured), killing over 3000 people.
