Traverse Town

Traverse Town (トラヴァースタウン, Toravāsu Taun^?) is a world in the Kingdom Hearts universe. This world is shrouded in perpetual nighttime, and its architecture bears resemblance to a typical early 19th century European city. In this sense, it is similar to Fantasyland at Disneyland. A world between light and darkness, Traverse Town was created from fragments of the worlds destroyed by the Heartless. Because of this, it is no longer an individual world, and all of it became the parts of the worlds they once were. It served as a home for people who had barely escaped the destruction of their own worlds and unknowingly drifted through the Dark Corridor, a pathway between worlds that many beings like the Heartless use.

In Kingdom Hearts, Sora could visit Traverse Town numerous times during the course of the game to purchase items, speak with certain characters, and complete many side quests, as well as advance the main storyline. Some special items and equipment can only be found in this world; as such, it serves as a base of operations for Sora and his friends. The world is divided into three primary Districts, each with its own unique secrets and features. It reappears in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, but only as a product of Sora's memories in Castle Oblivion.

Sora finds himself in District 1 when he first arrives in Traverse Town, where he meets up with accessory merchant and gummi expert Cid Highwind. Except for a brief time near the beginning of the game, this district is devoid of any Heartless; hence, most of the townspeople live in this district. District 1 is also home to an accessory shop, item shop, and a small café. Above the accessory shop is an item workshop, where Moogles synthesize special stones, elements, and other materials into unique items.

This district features an elevated walkway overlooking a large open plaza. Whenever Sora and his friends discover any of the 99 Dalmatians scattered across the worlds, they are rescued and brought back to the Dalmatian’s House, located in this district. There are also entrances to the adjacent Hotel and Alleyway from here. Above the shops, there is a secret window leading to the balcony that Goofy and Donald Duck fell from in District 3.

The most impressive structure in District 2 is the Gizmo Shop, which outwardly resembles an old cathedral. The Gizmo Shop roof has a bell tower, which is linked to the Traverse Town Keyhole, also in District 2.

District 3 is the smallest of the three primary districts. There is a small plaza and a beautiful fountain of Lady and the Tramp at the center of this district. There are entrances to the Small House, the Mystical House, and District 1 in this area.

Sora first meets Donald and Goofy when they land on top of him after falling off a balcony in District 3 during his first visit to Traverse Town. This meeting was followed by a battle with the Guard Armor Heartless.

[edit] Back Alley

A smaller section of Traverse Town, it contains entrances to the Secret Waterway, the Dalmatian's House, and the Hotel. There is also a hidden back alley path to District 1 that is blocked by tall boxes. It becomes easily ascessible after Sora has learned the High Jump.

[edit] Known Occupants

This world is originaly made from the remains of destroyed worlds so all its occupants are only people who have lost their world.

• Moogles- They originaly came from Radiant Garden but it was taken over by Maleficent.
• Cid Highwind- He originally came from Radiant Garden before Maleficent took control of it, he runs the local gummi shop and he usually helps out at the accesory shop.
• Leon- Squall had changed his name to Leon shortly after his world was taken over by Maleficent 9 years ago, and he usually fights off the heartless that appear in the town.
• Aerith Gainsborough- She lives here along with Leon and Cid.
• Yuffie Kisaragi- She moved to Traverse Town when she was very little and has lived their most of her life with Cid, Aerith and Leon.
• Pinocchio along with his father Geppeto, his pet goldfish, his conscience Jiminy Cricket, and the giant whale Monstro are the only survivors of their world after it was destroyed by the Heartless, Pinochio and Geppeto had been living inside Monstro but they were later saved by Cid and Leon and they were given a new home in Traverse Town.
