Trafalgar Way

The Trafalgar Way is the name given to the historic route taken in November 1805 by Lieutenant Lapenotiere, from Falmouth to London, with the momentous news of Lord Nelson's victory and death in the Battle of Trafalgar, in October 1805.
Lapenotiere made 21 stops at coaching inns in Truro, Fraddon, Bodmin, Launceston, Okehampton, Crockernwell, Exeter, Honiton, Axminster, Bridport, Dorchester, Blandford Forum, Woodyates, Salisbury, Andover, Overton, Basingstoke, Hartfordbridge, Bagshot, Staines and Hounslow.
This 36-hour journey by post chaise was commemorated in 2005, the bicentenary, by the New Trafalgar Dispatch celebrations.
