[edit] Introduction
Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888, and continues to be considered one of the pre-eminent schools in North Queensland. Led by Principal Mr Richard Fairley and the Board of Trustees, the school states that it strives for academic, cultural and sporting excellence. It is the most northern member of the prestigious Grammar School system in Queensland, and is well known as the oldest co-educational school on the Australian mainland.

To provide a best practice, independent school environment within which students enjoy mutual respect, a sense of pride and can achieve their personal best in academic, cultural and sporting endeavours.
[edit] School Badge
The School Badge was designed in 1902 by a Sydney architect. The background represents the Southern Cross, with the Three Turrets set on the Rock of Christianity, surrounded by the sea of Plenty. The central turret symbolises spiritual values, while the two side turrets represent intellectual and sporting values.
The Latin text on the badge reads "Bonus intra melior exi", literally "Come in good, go out better".

Students are encouraged to develop higher-order thinking skills, problem solving abilities and to seek creative solutions to issues. The School believes that for students to be effective citizens of the 21st century, they need to be equipped with certain essential learnings that will enable them to become socially responsible, effective and valued members of society with a lifelong dedication to the pursuit of knowledge.
At the same time, Townsville Grammar School endeavours to assist students to develop a sense of social justice, an awareness of the multi-cultural nature of Australian society, an understanding of the social, economic and political pressures which will shape tomorrow's world, and a sense of ecological and civic responsibility.

The North Ward campus holds home to the TGS Senior and Middle Schools, and is situated in the seaside suburb of North Ward in Townsville.

The Senior School at TGS hosts grades 10-12. Facilities include:
- 50m swimming pool
- Sports ovals (including the Morwood and Muller ovals)
- Air-conditioned Centenerary Gymnasium
- Computer Labs, comprising of IBM-compatible and Macintosh systems
- Separate Music Centre across Burke Street
- Resurfaced Basketball and Netball Courts
- Access to the Townsville Sports Reserve and Townsville Tennis Association courts

The $6.5 Million construction was completed at the start of 2006, and was officially opened on 1 April 2006. Facilities include:
- 14 Classrooms, refurbished SIM block consisting of 4 rooms, Middle School office and 3 staff rooms
- Middle School Plaza
- The complex was developed with the environment in mind, and houses environmentally friendly Air-Conditioning and heated water.
- Each classroom has an Audio Visual System (consisting of a Video Projector, Sound System and VCR/DVD Player)
- Toilet and Shower Facilities (On 2 Levels)
- Science Lab
- 4 classrooms focused on the languages studied in the Middle School (Japanese, French, Indonesian and the newly introduced Italian)
- Landscaped Middle School precinct surrounds
