To create a cool welcome message that can easily (and obviously) be personalised to individual users. The code took a while but it is worth it, you can copy and paste the code below and it will display perfectly (no tweaking needed).
I created this to be in keeping with my personal policy on welcome messages, a common sense initiative I hope others will take up.
To add this to a user page use: {{subst:User:Tmorton166/welcome/template|user={{PAGENAME}}|text=YOUR MESSAGE}}
Don't forget to replace Your Message with your personal note. It's the only thing in the code you need to edit, I even have some examples listed below for common scenario's which you could easily use.

You can sign your name on talk pages by using " ~~~ " for your username and " ~~~~ " for your username and a timestamp.. Signing your name is important on talk pages because it helps people get in touch with you. Also remember to indent each of your comments using : so that other users can follow the flow of discussions As well as editing wikipedia you could also think about taking part in many other essential activities that make wikipedia a friendly place. For example you could welcome new users to wikipedia (for this you are could use my welcome templates here) or you could try mediating discussions between other users. There are loads of other options at the Wikipedia:Community Portal. |

[edit] Personalized Notes
I know alot of people won't want to make up lots of individual personalisations, thats fine, thats not what I intended. Instead here are some outlines for personal messages that I have so far found useful. Don't just use these straight off though! Try adding a little extra touch to them to make it that extra bit special.
If you think of anymore obvious ones that are missing from the list or would like to add your own message to one of the categories then please do so. The more we have the more varied our welcoming can be!
