"The Parking Garage" is the twenty-third episode of the situation comedy Seinfeld. The episode was the sixth episode for the show's third season. It aired on October 30, 1991.
The episode was written by Larry David and was directed by Tom Cherones, and takes place entirely in a parking garage.

The main cast is in search of Kramer's car in the multi-level parking garage after Kramer purchases an air conditioner. They cannot remember where the car was parked and have a hard time finding it. After carrying the box for some time, an exhausted Kramer decides to leave it behind one of the parked cars and tries to memorize the number of the parking space. Among other concerns, Elaine fears that her new goldfish will die in the airtight bag before they can get it home. So, as the gang search for the car, Elaine desperately begs passerbys in the parking garage to offer them a ride around the building to find their car but the passerbys simply reply with the same negative answer. As for Jerry, he is eager to take a leak. Kramer encourages Jerry to do it in some dark corner where no one can see him. After Jerry takes a leak, he is unfortunately spotted by an officer and is held in the officer's booth. Jerry tries to talk his way out of trouble by by making up a story, but the officer is not convinced with Jerry's exaggerated story. George is also somehow caught in the act by trying to take a leak too, by the same officer. Jerry and George are both fined and are let go. After the two find Elaine, Jerry convinces George to ask a passing by, attractive woman, whom they saw earlier in the episode, to offer them a lift around the garage. Uneasily, George goes up to her and before he was able to finish his question, to George's surprise, the women immediately replied yes. They all get in the woman's car and drive off. Moments later, the women kicks out the passengers from her car after George said something to the woman that made her explode in anger (the viewers are not told exactly what George said to the woman, but it had something to do with L. Ron Hubbard). Then by luck, the gang find out that they were dropped right by Kramer's car but unfortunately, Kramer, who has the car keys, is still lost somewhere in the garage. Hours pass by as George, Jerry and Elaine wait by the car. Finally, Kramer shows up. By then, Elaine's goldfish were not able to survive. Kramer explains that forgetting the location of the box was the reason that took him so long. As they all get in the car, Kramer starts the car but the engine fails to run. Thus, the episode ends here.
[edit] Miscellaneous
- This is one of only a few episodes that does not use the Seinfeld studio set for a single scene. The whole stage was stripped and setup to be a parking garage instead.
- The Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City, New Jersey is used for the exterior shots of the mall where the parking garage is located and, given hints in the script, was the inspiration for the unnamed mall in this episode.
- Michael Richards carried an actual air conditioning unit around for the whole day whilst filming so it would appear authentic, which is why he appears very tired throughout the episode.
- The car failing to start at the end of the episode was an accident. An old car was used, and when it did not start whilst filming the scene, it was decided to keep this as it epitomized the episode as something else going wrong.
- To help make the set larger, mirrors lined the walls to give the illusion of a large parking garage. This is evident in the opening shots when it is possible to see a reflection of the gang.
