The Lake Superior Scottish Regiment

The Lake Superior Scottish Regiment is a reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces. The Regiment is Located in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and is part of 38 Canadian Brigade Group. The unit was begun in response to the second Riel Rebellions, and was originally the 96th Algoma Rifles. During the Second World War, the Regiment - then known as The Lake Superior Regiment (Motor) - mobilized a Motor (motorized infantry) battalion for the 4th Canadian (Armoured) Division. The Regiment was the only Canadian land based unit to score a naval victory during the Second World War, destroying three German destroyers and damaging a fourth with mortar fire. This battle occured on the 5th of November 1944, in Zipje harbour in the Netherlands .[citation needed]
Also known as the "Lake Sups" (pronounced soups), the regiment was active in the Second World War. Since this time it's soldiers have served throughout the world on numerous peacekeeping operations. Recently the LSSR has had several soldiers serve in Afghanistan. The Regiment has lost one soldier, Cpl Anthony "T-Bone" Boneca while fighting Taliban insurgents since the war began.
