From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Harsh Cry of the Heron is an one of the two sequels to Lian Hearn's popular Tales of the Otori trilogy (the other sequel being Heaven’s Net is Wide) which was released on March 7, 2006.
The novel is set sixteen years after the end of the Brilliance of the Moon, and 'deals with many of the questions that remained unanswered at the end of that book'. The novel begins at a time of prosperity for Takeo and Kaede, but their fates take a turn for the worse when they attract the attention of the mainland's Emperor and his general, the warlord Saga Hideki. An alliance between Arai Zenko and the Kikuta family against Takeo also threatens Takeo's empire. And Takeo has many other concerns, above all for his younger daughters, the twins Maya and Miki, whose strange talents lead them into the world of shadows and ghosts...
