I have removed mischaracterization of the Thembu as being Xhosa and as a clan rather than a people. The information I have added needs to be linked to other relevant articles; I intend to return to do this, to give references, and to add some additional historical information, particularly about the resistance of the Thembu king Sabata Dalindyebo to spurious "independence" for the Transkei under apartheid and his support of the ANC.
