State Highway 53 is a Texas state highway that runs from Temple to Rosebud.

SH 53 was originally designated by 1933 along a portion of the original route of SH 36 from Lampasas to Rosebud. It was shortened to its current route in 1935, when the stretch from Lampasas to Temple was transferred to U.S. Route 190
