[edit] Character History
[edit] In Power Rangers: Turbo
While on route to the fictitious city of Angel Grove, California, T.J., who was traveling with Cassie Chan, falls victim to an attack by the villain Divatox. Because of his bravery and his assistance in saving others (including Tommy Oliver), he was hand-picked to be the successor to Tommy, the Red Turbo Ranger, in forming the new team of Turbo Power Rangers. Although he was a capable team leader, the Turbo powers were lost when Divatox had managed to overrun the Power Rangers' Power Chamber.
[edit] In Power Rangers in Space
Making his way into space to pursue Divatox, he meets Andros, the Red Space Ranger from a distant planet. Although initially receptive of their presence, Andros would later give the four remaining Turbo Power Rangers new powers that matched his own, and T.J. would become the Blue Space Ranger and second in command of the team, and in turn give leadership of the team to Andros, due to himself being unfamiliar with outer space. He would remain the Blue Space Ranger for the remainder of the series and would participate in the final Battle against the United Alliance of Evil.
[edit] In Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy
He was also in the Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy episodes that were crossovers between the two teams (Lost Galaxy and Space).
[edit] In Power Rangers: Wild Force
T.J. made his final appearance in the Power Rangers: Wild Force episode Forever Red, where he, as the Red Turbo Ranger, and nine other Red Rangers defeated the remnants of the Machine Empire, the main villains of Power Rangers: Zeo. It was unknown how he reobtains his Red Ranger powers, and whether his powers as the Blue Space Ranger remain. Fans of Power Rangers argue that the powers that he had were those of the robotic duplicate, gotten from Lightning Cruiser just like Justin, the Blue Turbo Ranger, or that they were reconstructed in the same fashion of that of the original Red Power Ranger.
T.J. is either retired in Earth, or active as the Blue Space Ranger.
[edit] Notes
- According to the episode Passing the Torch, Part 2, he wanted to be a Power Ranger since he was a kid.
- Was a huge fan of baseball.
- T.J. was the first known African American Red Ranger (as well as the first known African American Ranger team leader). This would be repeated with Jack Landors in Power Rangers: S.P.D.
- T.J. was the first African American Blue Ranger, and the second Blue Ranger to be portrayed by an African-American actor. Cestro of Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers was portrayed by an African American actor.
- T.J.'s full name was never referenced in Turbo or Space. However, T.J. was introduced by his full name, Theodore Jay Jarvis Johnson, by Carter Grayson, the Red Ranger of Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue, in the Power Rangers: Wild Force episode Forever Red. To that introduction he responded, "Please, call me T.J."
- In Power Rangers: Turbo, a robotic duplicate of T.J. was created, complete with Ranger powers. The fate of this robotic Power Ranger's remains unknown, and may have been erased from continuity, or been destroyed by the United Alliance of Evil's attack on Eltar.
