Sylvia Straus

Sylvia Straus (born in Cleveland, Ohio) was an American classical pianist.
She married Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel on December 10, 1946, in Los Angeles, California. Their daughter Susannah Heschel is a Jewish Scholar.
Strauss studied music, philosophy and literature. Arthur Rubinstein recommended her to Eduard Steuermann (1892-1964), a Jew of Polish descent who had studied piano with Busoni, composition with Schoenberg and was affiliated with the Second Viennese School. Strauss became a master student of Steuermann.
