Stand-up roller coaster
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A stand-up roller coaster is a roller coaster designed to have the passengers stand through the course of the ride. Typically, the rider is restrained by an adjustable, bicycle-like seat and an over the shoulder (OTS) restraint.

[edit] History
The first stand-up roller coaster was Extremeroller (EXT) at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. Originally named Screamroller, it was redesigned for the 1983 season to hold stand-up trains. The first coaster built as a stand-up coaster was SkyRider, by the Japanese company TOGO in 1985.
While the stand-up roller coaster has been popular with guests of amusement parks for its unusual riding position, a common complaint of riders is leg discomfort, due to the challenge of straddling the seat with the feet flat on the floor.
The design has had its phases of popularity, but not recently. The last stand-up roller coaster to be constructed was Georgia Scorcher at Six Flags Over Georgia, built in 1999. Approximately 20 were built in the 15 years between 1984 and 1999.
