Spring Independent School District
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Spring Independent School District is a school district based in unincorporated Harris County, Texas (USA).
Spring ISD serves a small portion of Houston and portions unincorporated Harris County as well as the community of Spring.
The Spring Independent School District serves over 31,300 prekindergarten through twelfth-grade students in a diverse and growing district located 20 miles north of downtown Houston in an urban area of Harris County that spans 57 square miles. The District's ethnic breakdown is 38.4 percent African American, 33.3 percent Hispanic, 23.1 percent white, 5 percent Asian and Pacific Islander and .2 percent Native American.
Student needs drive the decisions that are made in Spring ISD, and priorities for meeting those needs have been established in a Five-Year Education Plan that is updated regularly. In addition, a Ten-Year Facilities Master Plan helps the District address the needs of one of the fastest-growing student populations in Harris County and the Gulf Coast region.
Spring ISD's student-to-teacher ratio is 22 to 1 for prekindergarten through fourth grade and 25 to 1 for fifth- through twelfth-grades. The District offers half-day prekindergarten classes for qualified four-year olds, full-day kindergarten, bilingual and English as a Second Language programs, gifted and talented programs and honors and Advanced Placement classes.
Spring ISD uses technology to educate students and increase their safety. All campuses are connected with high-speed fiber and offer filtered Internet access. Classrooms are outfitted with ceiling-mounted projectors, and each school is equipped with Smart Boards and various multimedia devices. Every teacher has been issued a laptop to enhance teaching and productivity in the classroom, and wireless connectivity is available at all schools.
Advanced technology is also used to identify campus visitors and verify when and where elementary students get on and off their school buses.
The District focuses on being fiscally responsible in all areas. For the fourth consecutive year, Spring ISD has earned a rating of superior achievement in the state's financial accountability rating system. The rating is based on the district’s receiving a perfect score on 21 financial indicators.
