Southampton is a village in Suffolk County, New York in the USA. The population was 3,965 at the 2000 census. The village is named after the Earl of Southampton. It is part of the summer colony known as The Hamptons.
The Village of Southampton is in the southeast part of the county in the Town of Southampton.

Southampton was the second English settlement in modern New York, after Southold (CDP), New York, though this is partially due to a historical technicality - the territory of New Netherlands was still owned by the Dutch at the time but Southampton lay in a part of Long Island that was part of Connecticut at the time and later ceded in a legal dispute. The Village of Southampton was incorporated in 1894 and is in the Town of Southampton.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 17.5 km² (6.8 mi²). 16.4 km² (6.3 mi²) of it is land and 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it (6.36%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 3,965 people, 1,651 households, and 982 families residing in the village. The population density was 241.8/km² (626.7/mi²). There were 2,936 housing units at an average density of 179.1/km² (464.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 80.38% White, 12.94% Black or African American, 0.83% Native American, 1.59% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.97% from other races, and 2.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.05% of the population.
There were 1,651 households out of which 21.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.1% were married couples living together, 12.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.5% were non-families. 34.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the village the population was spread out with 19.5% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 93.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $54,300, and the median income for a family was $61,016. Males had a median income of $40,729 versus $36,875 for females. The per capita income for the village was $37,150. About 1.3% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.6% of those under age 18 and 3.9% of those age 65 or over.
