Sophia Esteed

Sophia Esteed is a character in Square Enix's role playing game Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. She is a childhood friend of Fayt Leingod.

Fayt's childhood friend, Sophia was born on the orbital colony Moonbase and then moved to Earth. She is a fairly odd girl, at least for the era SO3 takes place in, for she enjoys cooking, cleaning, and basic things traditionally considered "feminine". Despite this, she is rather strong-minded when danger of physical pain is not involved, and while she is no genius, she is a skilled student of healing Symbology. She is also adept at other forms of Symbology that are very damaging to enemies, and this proficiency becomes useful later in the game.

Though the game expresses few hints of an attraction between Fayt and Sophia at first, the manga, from the start, implies that Sophia has feelings for Fayt and possibly vice versa. This topic is the focus of the first volume's extra chapter. At the beginning of the first disk though, Sophia calls Fayt's father "Uncle Robert", implimenting that she and Fayt are cousins, and therefore cannot be in love in that sense, however, this is a common misintepretation among fans. It is simply because the Leingods and Esteeds are such close friends that the each child refers to the other's parents as "Uncle" and "Aunt"(Fayt, early in the game, made a comment that Sophia's father was more interesting than any of his "real" uncles which further affirms that they are not related). An element also contributing to the Fayt-Sophia relationship is a conversation shared between Fayt and Sophia in Queen Aquaria's garden, where Fayt vows to be Sophia's "knight in shining armor", to which Sophia tells him he's being overdramatic - Edit - This only occurs when Sophia's affection points for Fayt are low, when Sophia's affection points are high which they usually are provided one hasn't specifically been mean to Sophia, Sophia is glad that Fayt will be her knight. Obtaining high affection points for Sophia is extremely easy due to the boost she gets for Fayt compared to other characters and thus she is the default ending via the PA system.

Although not physically inclined as the other party members, she is arguably the most powerful symbology user in the game, and can cause major devastation to enemies with spells such as Meteor Swarm and Thunder Strike. She can also be an essential to defensive tatics, with spells such as Protection, Reflection, Power Up, Angel Feather, and so on.
