Welcome to Wikipedia, Shran! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

You are among a handful of new and anonymous to reinsert a dispute tag in the Cold War article. While your reasons for doing so may be legitimate, so far not a single statement explaining the reasoning behind the tag has been offered on the Cold War discussion page or stated to me and the other interested editors. Yet I have made multiple requests to know just exactly what is in dispute so that we start working toward improving the article. In addition to making an inquiry on the talk page, I have been asking some of the accounts reinserting the tag (which may or may not be the same person) individually about their reasoning, only to be ignored. This "Shran" has a major interest in Star Trek and related fields as well. I don't know who made the initial connection, but it is very difficult to prove you aren't somebody else online. -Will Beback 20:53, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Since they named themselves "shran" a non-word, it means 1) they're either already farmiliar with trek related interests (Shran) and this username choice is a coincidence, or 2) they're already familiar with memory-alpha, in which case they're familiar with User:Shran--481284 01:32, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Um... the IP above is from a computer at the IT lab back on campus. My home IP is like 172 something... (this is the real Shran, btw). --172.172.119.177 03:40, 5 May 2006 (UTC) <--Yeah, see... that. :P

Having said that, I did create an account a while back, but I have since forgotten what it was. There is a slight possibility this is it... but, as I recall, I couldn't use the name "Shran" because it was already used, so I used something else... hence, why I forgot it. Can anybody trace down the little-used user accounts created by someone with a 172 IP? Not that it would matter, b/c I have no idea what the password is... Okay, judging by the contributions, I can tell you this is definitely not me. Aside from Ferengi, I have no real interest in any of the topics there, nor have I ever edited any of them -- including Ferengi. (Sorry for the constant edits, btw.) --172.145.23.98 05:17, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

The connection between the WP Shran and the MA Shran was made by another editor and I don't know the basis, beyond the identical name, similar interests (though anyone named "Shran" must be an ST fan), and the apparently close geographical proximity. Without other points of connection I don't see a need to connect the two Shrans. I'm not familiar with MA, but apparently that Shran is an admin and acts responsibly. If the WA Shran was as responsible as the other there wouldn't be a problem. I've already edited the sockpuppet notice on the user page here to remove the connection, so there's nothing else to do. -Will Beback 05:27, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
