Shashi Kapoor

Shashi Kapoor (Hindi: शशि कपूर, Urdu: ششِ کپُور), born Balbirraj Kapoor March 18, 1938 in Calcutta, is an Indian actor and a member of the famous Kapoor family, an influential film dynasty in India's Bollywood cinema. He is the brother of Raj Kapoor, the son of Prithviraj Kapoor, the husband of the late Jennifer Kendal, and the father of Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor, and Sanjana Kapoor. Son Kunal is married to director Ramesh Sippy's daughter and Sanjana to wildlife conservationist Valmik Thapar.

Shashi Kapoor was a very popular actor during the 1970s and the 1980s. In Indian cinema, his most famous movies include Jab Jab Phool Khile, Sharmilee, Chor Machaye Shor, Deewaar, Kabhi Kabhie, and Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
In July, 1958, he married the British actress Jennifer Kendal and they acted in a number of films together, most notably in the Merchant Ivory productions, Shakespeare Wallah (1965), Bombay Talkie (1970), and Heat and Dust (1982). Kendal passed away from cancer in 1984.
He won the National Award for acting for his role in New Delhi Times. He did not value the award much as he was still upset about his wife not getting the award for 36 Chowringhee Lane some years ago. She had lost out to Rekha in Umrao Jaan.

Has been a co star with Amitabh Bachchan in 13 films ( mostly hits) Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Deewaar, Kabhi Kabhie, Kaala Patthar, Shaan, Imaan Dharam, Trishul, Suhaag, Do Aur Do Paanch, Namak Halaal, Akayla, and Silsila.
