Share My World is 3rd album by soul singer Mary J. Blige, released April 22, 1997 (see 1997 in music), and it is her first #1 album, topping the Billboard 200 Albums chart for a week and Billboard R&B Albums chart for 4 weeks. On her third album, Blige changed her music style from hip hop soul to more polished R&B. Blige teemed up with one of the most popular producers in the business, including R. Kelly for "It's On", Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for "Love Is All We Need" and "Everything", Rodney Jerkins for "I Can Love You", and Babyface for "Missing You" and "Not Gon' Cry". Blige won an American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Album (Share My World) and was nominated for Favorite Female soul/R&B Artist. Blige was also nominated for a Grammy Award for a R&B Album (Share My World), and for Soul Train Award nominations for Best R&B/Soul Album, and won a Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for R&B Soul Album of the Year (solo).
During My Life, Mary had went through depression while battling drugs. Blige had a near death experience months before recording this album when a person threatened her life. Since then, she had decided to put her life on track, trying to get over drugs & alcohol. Mary would eventually overcome her battle with drugs when Share My World was released but she would not get over alcohol until 2001, when No More Drama was released.
