Shang Jiang

Shang Jiang (上將/上将) is a Chinese military rank. In the People's Liberation Army, it is the highest rank, equivalent to that of General or Admiral. In the period of 1988 - 2000 there existed the rank of First Class Shang Jiang (一级上将), equivalent to the rank of Da Jiang (大将), which existed from 1955 to 1965.
In the military of the Republic of China, there are two Shang Jiang ranks: First Class Shang Jiang (一級上將), also equivalent to that of General or Admiral, and Second Class Shang Jiang (二級上將), equivalent to that of Lieutenant General or Vice Admiral, with no regular Shang Jiang (上將) rank.
