- An official Kolkata Police newsletter publishes a "rate chart" of bribes to be paid to enable undertrials at a city court lock-up to get cellphones, foreign liquor etc.

- Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh announces free power for farmers. This will cost the state Rs. 439 crore (approximately 100 million US dollars) and the state's farm subsidy bill will increase to 15.39 billion Indian rupees. (350 million US dollars approx.) (The Tribune) (Business Standard)
- The Nanavati-Shah commission probing the Gujarat riots requests the President of India's secretariat to produce the letters written by former President K R Narayanan to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee between February 28, 2002 to March 31, 2002. (Times of India)
- The Prime Minister of the [[United Kingdom}} Tony Blair says the fact that he is travelling to India with 30 CEOs and chairmen of leading British companies is proof of how "excited" British business is about India. "India is an inspiring example of a nation that is benefiting from liberalisation – its excellence in IT is now legendary, and global companies know they have to have a presence in India" he said.
- The cabinet committee on security, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh clears the purchase of three wide-bodied Boeing business jets at a cost of over Rs. 1,000 crore (approx. 220 million US dollars) (Financial Express) (Hindustan Times)
- The Union cabinet raises petrol prices by Rs. 3 a litre and diesel by Rs. 2 in tune with flaring international crude oil rates, but not that of LPG and kerosene. (Financial Express)
