[edit] Sengkang New Town
Oh, I was just trying to find acceptable definition material to help define the scope of each section (since not asserting a definition between each section isn't preferred). Change it as you wish. From the entire conception of "one of the premier towns of the twenty-first century"; if I recall correctly, Sengkang is a focus for an "ideal town of the future", ie. one that uses public transport preferably, or at least far more extensively, hence all the planning. After all, much of the public transport facilities are essentially under-used, while having far more capacity than many other towns, ie. even for the Choa Chu Kang side. Implicitly, this means that essentially that public transport is the ideal mode of transport in the future, with key areas (ie. Punggol, etc.) being the focus. I may be drawing on too many implications here, perhaps. This doesn't mean that Sengkang uses more public transport than other towns now; but it will in the future, will it not? -- Elle vécut heureusement toujours dorénavant (Be eudaimonic!) 09:51, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

- I get your logical chain of thoughts. However, just want to point out that the public transportation facilities provided in Sengkang New Town, especially the North East Line, are planned based on a certain ultimate population base in the future. As at present, Sengkang New Town's development has yet to be fully completed, in fact, not even half of its planned ultimate dwelling units has been realised! Hence, it is not surprising that certain public transport facilities would appear to be under-utilised. Of course, as a flat dweller, many of us do not own cars. Thus, to me, your insertion of "private transport being the dominant mode of transport" comes as a rather shocking statement to me (=p). I will see how it could be worded more appropriately. =D Cheers! --Sengkang 10:03, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- Oops, I meant that road transport was the dominant mode. Alas. I was writing without glasses there, at that point. Elle vécut heureusement toujours dorénavant (Be eudaimonic!) 05:42, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image captions
Oh one more thing. Image captions should ideally be short, referring to existing material in the article. Descriptions of streets in Chinatown might actually be better in the body text itself (making it larger :D) while keeping the caption to a line or two long. Just a suggestion! Elle vécut heureusement toujours dorénavant (Be eudaimonic!) 05:47, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
- Done! --Sengkang 15:48, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia Commons
Hi Sengkang,
You may want to consider uploading a copy of the images to the commons. This allows an album to be set up on the subject of the article, and allows the use of image on different languages of Wikipedia.
If you need assistance in doing that, let me know on my talkpage. :)
- Cheers, Mailer Diablo 03:16, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, but now I have over 700 images. Will need to find time to do that! =D --Sengkang 03:24, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
-
- Don't worry, I think I have time for that. :) Transferring while doing my work at the same time! :P - Mailer Diablo 03:41, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- I suppose it is fine to transfer them to commons under the following license? (Commons eqv. here)
The copyright holder of this image allows anyone to use it for any purpose, including unrestricted redistribution, commercial use, and modification.
Note: If this is your own work, please consider using {{PD-self}} instead. |
- Mailer Diablo 04:08, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- I guess should be no problem, thanks for your help. --Sengkang 06:49, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

- No problem, don't forget to upload your photos in future to the commons! =D - Mailer Diablo 07:15, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Military Macaw jbp.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Military Macaw jbp.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. CLW 10:57, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
- I am the creator of the photograph myself, and have changed the tag accordingly. Thanks. --Sengkang 12:13, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Names of historical sites
Hi, I see you name articles like MICA Building as Old Hill Street Police Station and Lau Pa Sat a redirect to Telok Ayer Market. I'm just curious why is it named to its old name and not its current name. Anyway, congratulations for all the historical building articles you've created so far. Keep it up. --Terence Ong 14:50, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Terence. The reasons are that these are national monuments and that the names of these buildings would always be continually changing as their users change hands over the years. Therefore, it's more logical to use their original names. Thanks! --Sengkang 15:43, 19 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Singapore Collaboration of the Fortnight
Hi Sengkang, the quality of the articles you created is amazing, and I'm deeply impressed. I'm wondering however if you would be interested to vote for or nominate other articles for the Singapore Collaboration of the Fortnight for some collaborative editing. I'm hoping to get something started before the long weekend, thanks. --Vsion 23:47, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, will take a look at it. --Sengkang 01:35, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] SGCOTF: Sentosa
Thank you for voting Sentosa, it has been selected for Singapore Collaboration of the Fortnight. Please come and help it become a featured-standard article. If you know of another important article lacking in detail, do nominate it for the next SGCOTF. Thanks again. |
ps: I use your picture of Merlion as a logo for this SGCOTF notice. Hope you don't mind :D --Vsion 04:39, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. Of course i don't! =D --Sengkang 05:15, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re : Transwikiing images
Hi Sengkang,
Unfortunately, the only way is the usual method. There isn't any shortcut that I know of myself (which I wished of too!). - Best regards, Mailer Diablo 20:52, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks! --Sengkang 03:46, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Regarding the TKSS article
Enlighten us, as in the students of Tanjong Katong Secondary School (TKSS), as you claimed that TK is not the only all-express school in Singapore. TK students have often been made to believe we're the only all-express school in Singapore. We would appreciate it if you enlighten us on this matter.
Darklord of the Sith Daniel Lim 09:37, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- This is a list of secondary schools, if not complete, which are also all-Express schools:
- Anglican High
- Anglo-Chinese (Independent)
- Catholic High
- Cedar Girls'
- CHIJ St Nicholas Girls'
- Chung Cheng High (Main)
- Crescent Girls'
- Dunman High
- Maris Stella High
- Methodist Girls'
- Nanyang Girls' High
- Nan Hua High
- Raffles Girls'
- Raffles Institution
- River Valley High
- St Joseph's Institution
- Singapore Chinese Girls'
- Tanjong Katong Girls'
- Tanjong Katong Sec
- The Chinese High
- Victoria School
- --Sengkang 10:05, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- I'm afraid you've mixed up your definition...an all-express school is a school which only offers the express stream.
-
- Darklord of the Sith Daniel Lim 10:47, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- ok, thanks for clarifying. I was correcting the version dated 21:08, January 31, 2006, same as per your current version, which said ...
- Tanjong Katong Secondary, or known affectionately by her pupils as TK, is the only all-express stream school in Singapore.
- This seems to imply that TKSS is the only school in Singapore which is an all-express school. Perhaps you would like to change it to...
- Tanjong Katong Secondary, or known affectionately by her pupils as TK, is an all-express stream school in Singapore.
- --Sengkang 13:35, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
-
- I understand your confusion and appreciate you for raising the issue. TKSS is unique for this, and that was why I had to mention it. Thus, I am willing to reach to a compromise. I will thus change it to:
- Tanjong Katong Secondary, or known affectionately by her pupils as TK, is the only school in Singapore which offers solely the Express Stream.
- I thank you for bringing this to my attention.

[edit] IM with SGpedians'
Hi Sengkang, sorry to spam you again. :D Do you use IRC or MSN to chat? We SGpedians' can somehow discuss stuff over the IM which is somehow inappopriate in WP itself. --Terence Ong 11:31, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I do use MSN and log into IRC, both occasionally. Is there a channel for SGpedians in IRC? --Sengkang 13:18, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yeap, but is hardly in use. You may like to join the main Wikipedia IRC channel. I'm always there as no one is on the Singapore channel. This is the link for the main IRC channel. For other IRC channels, you may wish to refer to WP:IRC. For the Singapore channel, it is on the top of the notice board. --Terence Ong 15:01, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] When one vandalises....
When one user or IP vandalises an article, or other pages, do give them a warning by using some of this templates. {{test2}}, {{test3}}, {{test4}}, {{test1}}, {{test2-n}} etc. for whichever is appopriate. --Terence Ong 15:11, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip, but I always wonder the effectiveness of warning a vandal IP adddress as it is most probably shared. --Sengkang 15:15, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Do take some pictures on your visit to Hong Kong

Hello Sengkang, it is my apologies to bring you that I've withdrawn my RFA. Due to the lack of experience, I would go under admin coaching first before trying again later. I would thank you for your vote in this RFA whether you voted support, oppose or neutral for me. [edit] Photo on FPC
Hi Sengkang, just to let you know that I've nominated one of your photos, Image:Clarke Quay 9, Feb 06.JPG, for featured picture status. A vote is underway to gather consensus on this matter, and no action on your part is required. If you require any clarifications of doubt, let me know on my talkpage. I hope this will be further motivation to continue your fantastic photography work on Wikipedia, keep it up! :) - Cheers, Mailer Diablo 00:28, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks! --Sengkang 03:30, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry to tell you the bad news, but the final vote was 8/3 which a user close it as no concensus i.e. not promoted. Hope it won't affect you. :( Just continue to upload your extensive and excellent collection photos, FPs do not mean much. --Terence Ong 14:13, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Don't use rvv in edit summaries all the time
Just a casual note, please do not use rvv in legitimate edits which have been reverted like what you did in Bukit Batok. Instead, just add rv <reason> (if any) to the edit summary box. One may get confused whether it is a vandalised edit or a legitimate edit reverted. Thanks. --Terence Ong 15:17, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I thought rvv meant "revert vandalism"? --Sengkang 15:31, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yup, it means that. If its not vandalism, then you should use something else. --Terence Ong 15:38, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Well, in the case of Bukit Batok, I considered it vandalism to a certain extent as the edit was nonsensical. Nevertheless, I will put in the reason(s) for ambiguous cases in future. --Sengkang 15:40, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yup, it means that. If its not vandalism, then you should use something else. --Terence Ong 15:38, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Malaysia images
Hi, I've seen that some of your Malaysian images are not uploaded on Commons. Would you like to transwiki them yourself? Oh yes, the Singapore meetup is finally confirmed and is on the June 23. If you can go (now or future), do leave your name at the meetup page. Thanks. --Terence Ong 11:54, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oh yes, have been too busy lately to do so. Besides, my work place's IP is frequently blocked so often could not do any edits from there. May not be able to attend any meetups as will be taking a break from wiki to settle some affairs. Thanks. —Sengkang 03:11, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
