Scouting in Queensland

Scouting in Queensland is a branch of Scouts Australia in the State of Queensland, Australia.

Scouting in Queensland is divided into regions:-

• Logan and Bay Region
• Gold Coast Region
• Near North Coast & Country Region
• Brisbane North Region
• Capricorn Region
• Central & Coastal Region
• Central Western Region
• Darling Downs Region
• Far North Region
• Kennedy Region
• Moreton Region
• North Western Region
• Brisbane South Region
• Suncoast Region
• Western Region
• Wide Bay-Burnett Region

The Scout Association, established over 98 years ago, is one of the Australia’s largest Youth Organisation. Its fundamental Aim, which are still as relevant today as when first outlined, are to encourage and promote the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people.

The Association achieves this Aim by progressive self-education programs, which focus on initiative, teamwork and cooperation, and community service and spirit. The development of leadership skills is a significant part of the Scout program, which ultimately helps today’s youth become tomorrow’s leaders.

In Queensland, more than 10,000 young people aged between 6 - 26 years are actively involved in a wide range of Scouting activities - from the Scouting in Schools program through to Scouts of the Air for young people living on isolated properties in North-West Queensland.

Over 3,500 adults and uniform Leaders voluntarily give up a substantial amount of their spare time as part of their commitment to developing young people as they progress through the program to become the community Leaders of the future. All adult members who apply to members of the Scout Movement undertake an extensive background history check and are required to be a holder of a blue card issued by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian.

The Association believes in equal opportunities for all, no matter what the social, economic, ethnic, religious or political backgrounds. Its focus is, and always has been, to provide quality, educational and enjoyable programs to help the development of young people through a diverse range of programs. The aim of Scouts Australia, Queensland Branch is to encourage the physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual development of young people so that they take a constructive place in society as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

The Baden-Powell Heritage Centre located at Samford and the Heritage Archival Reference Centre at Auchenflower hold heritage material on Scouting in Queensland and help Scouts with the Heritage Badge.

The Baden-Powell Guild also operates in Queensland and has many Sub-Branches and Members.

There is a Scout Air Activities Centre at Archerfield, Brisbane.

Web Access Made Easy has been recently founded by Scouts Queensland to be an internet service provider in Queensland and to support the Branch.

The Scout Supply Centre is a Scout Shop in Auchenflower, Brisbane, for the provision of Scout uniforms, badges, books etc.

There has been a Brisbane Gang Show since 1953. At 53 years old, it is currently One of the Five oldest Gang shows in the World.

The Current Chief Commissioner for Scouting Queensland is Maurice Law. (A.M.)
