Scottsboro is a city in Jackson County, Alabama, and is included in the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 14,762. The city is the county seat of Jackson County.

Scottsboro is located at GR1.
(34.651368, -86.042570)According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 134.0 km² (51.7 mi²). 122.6 km² (47.3 mi²) of it is land and 11.3 km² (4.4 mi²) of it (8.47%) is water. The water areas are the Tennessee River and its backwaters.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 14,762 people, 6,224 households, and 4,201 families residing in the city. The population density was 120.4/km² (311.8/mi²). There were 6,848 housing units at an average density of 55.8/km² (144.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 91.11% White, 5.34% Black or African American, 1.02% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 1.42% from two or more races. 1.50% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 6,224 households out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.5% were married couples living together, 12.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.85.
In the city the population was spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 88.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,654, and the median income for a family was $42,509. Males had a median income of $32,318 versus $21,965 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,430. About 9.9% of families and 14.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.1% of those under age 18 and 20.5% of those age 65 or over.

In the 1930s, the town hosted the notorious Scottsboro Boys trial.

Scottsboro is home to the one and only Unclaimed Baggage Center. It features articles of people's luggage including electronics, clothing, and any other item one might bring with them on a trip. The prices are low enough to attract visitors from other states, as well as from other parts of the world. The Unclaimed Baggage Center has been written or talked about in the following: The Wallstreet Journal, Vogue Magazine, Los Angeles Times, Good Morning America, The Washington Post, The Dallas Morning News, The Atlanta Journal, The Baltimore Sun, and The Seattle Times. The following quote is taken from The Atlanta Journal: "It's not just suitcases that are for sale -- it's the contents, too. And they're cheap. Name brand suits start around $50, and racks are full of $20 dresses."
