Scotland, Virginia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Scotland (also known as Scotland Wharf) is an unincorporated community in Surry County, Virginia. It is located on State Route 31 (the John Rolfe Highway). Scotland is the location of the southern terminal and headquarters of the Jamestown Ferry, a service across the James River which is operated by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Many visitors to Virginia's Historic Triangle of Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown arriving by automobile or tourbus choose to approach the colonial attractions via Scotland and the ferry service, so that they may view Jamestown Island by water, much as the original colonists may have when they arrived in 1607. Replicas of the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery are docked near the northern ferry terminus at Glasshouse Point in James City County.
