You may consider having the references put in a separate section titled ==References==. See Riojasaurus for what I changed. Thanks. --Ragib 18:44, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] VOC ships, naming conventions and categories

Hi there, Sandman30s - I see you've made a good start on creating and expanding a few articles across a range of topics: welcome, and I hope you stay around and continue the good work.

A couple of comments, which I hope will be useful to you, although you may well have worked these out for yourself by now (it can be difficult at times finding guideline information here on Wikipedia):

  • Firstly, in your expansion of the list of VOC ships on the Dutch East India Company page, some of the links there needed to be Disambiguated from the articles on the cities or towns of the same name. For example, the link Amsterdam goes to the entry on the Dutch city, but the link VOC ship Amsterdam is the one which was needed to go to the article on the actual ship of this name. I've revised the listing now accordingly (note that most of these ships seem to currently lack their own article, if you've the information you might like to set about creating articles for them, after searching to see if they may already have an article but under a different name or spelling). Since there are probably many different ships which have had the same name, and bearing in mind that every Wiki article needs a unique name, you might like to take a look at Naming conventions first for some guidelines on how to name different articles which might otherwise share the same title. In particular, take a look at Naming conventions (ships) for guidelines on how to name articles on particular ships, so that different ones with the same name can be told apart.
  • Secondly, when you create a new article, it is a good idea to assign it to at least one Category, as this is a very useful way to group together articles which are related in some way, and makes it easier to find them. Every Wiki article should be placed in at least one category (these appear at the bottom of the page, and when you click on them you can see the other related articles).
    • To do this, you just need to add [[Category:Put category name here]] to the bottom of the article page.
  • Take a look at the Category FAQ for some answers to common questions, how to look for existing categories, etc. If you are unsure about which category the article should be placed in, you can always look to see how similar articles are categorised, or you can ask someone, either on their talk page, or the talk page of the article.

Anyways, if you've any other queries, you can ask them on my talk page. Cheers, and happy editing! --cjllw | TALK 01:31, 2005 July 22 (UTC)

[edit] Trident curve formula is wrong, can you fix it?

The formula you posted at Trident curve, xy = ax3 + bx2 + cx = d is wrong. That would only have 3 points, which isn't much of a curve. I think the first equal sign should be a plus. Can you check and fix this please?

[edit] Grand Slam titles

Hi,

Checking something in the Grand Slam article, I noticed you had found a rather large section that wasn't about Grand Slams but about Grand Slam titles, and wanted to move it. This happened once before, and the part about Grand Slam titles was moved to ... Grand Slam title. You might want to try to merge this second installment into that one. [edit] Counterword

Your article Counterword has appeared in the Dead End Pages list because it is not wikified. Please consult the Wikipedia Guide to Layout for more information on how to write a good, wikified article. I would encourage you to revisit your submissions and {{wikify}} them. Thanks and happy editing! James084 22:34, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Counterword has been proposed for delition. Please see WP:WINAD for relevant guidelines. NickelShoe 04:53, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Astro Blaster

Your latest addition to Astro Blaster is copied from a website (www.mameworld.net/maws/romset/astrob1); do you have permission to reproduce it? Spottedowl 02:07, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

This is from a history file in mame itself, I didn't know this info was on a website. I thought mame itself is open-source and cannot be sold. Sandman30s

I see, my apologies for accusing you. :) I've been looking through your contributions and some of your additions are from external sources; I must admit I don't know if using them is a breach of copyright or not. However, as they are, many of them are unsuitable for an encyclopaedia article, as they are written in a personal and opinionated manner. Spottedowl 19:15, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

No apology needed :) I appreciate the hint if I am violating copyright or adding unsuitable content. Just thought the arcade game content needed some bumping up and what better source than the open-source mame? The tips are opinionated I agree, but they are "tips" for potential players of these games. Should tips and tricks be removed from the arcade game content? Also, in future, I will try to edit the mame history and add suitable content. Thank you. Sandman30s 19:38, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I think it's suggested in the Computer and Video Games guidelines that 'Wikipedia is not a game guide'. However, I personally don't mind strategic tips in game articles; in Armored Core, for example, there are a few hints about how to build an efficient robot, and I think this fits well with the article. I think it's more lists of cheat codes that people are against; they don't add anything to the article.

All you have to do, with including non-neutral content, is just pull the information out and present it as that - information. Spottedowl 20:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

I've read the guidelines and I have since removed all tips and tricks and non-encyclopedic content from my submissions. Thank you for the notification :) Sandman30s 11:29, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging for Image:2 On 2 Open Ice Challenge.png

Thanks for uploading Image:2 On 2 Open Ice Challenge.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Uploading screenshots

I think the problem is that you haven't specified the source of the screenshot - where it comes from. If you don't specify that you took the screenshot yourself using an emulator, the possibility exists that you've simply lifted it from a website, and that would be a copyright violation.

Try putting something like 'A screenshot of (whatever the game is) taken by myself from the emulator MAME' - that's what I put normally, and I've never had any rejections.

As for taking screenshots from MAME, I'm fairly sure it's fine - I've done it loads of times, and the WikiProject Arcade Games suggests it. Spottedowl 01:24, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Infobox Arcade Game

Most of the discussion about the current conversion of the Infobox Arcade Game template to Infobox CVG has been taking place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computer and video games. See this earlier discussion and the current "Arcade Box discussion" currently at the bottom of the page to get up to speed on the topic. --SevereTireDamage 00:07, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Game Articles

Just a reminder, when you create a new video/computer game article, like Avalanche (arcade game), try to put it in the New article announcements section of the CVG project page so that everyone can see that it was created and add something to it if they want. I stuck that article in there for you, but I don't catch all the new ones, and I only see them anyway if they have "game" in the name. Thanks! --PresN 20:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Goodness me, I have created a lot in the past few months. Thanks, will do. BTW I have converted my arcade game entries to the CVG infobox and will continue with others as I come across them alphabetically. Sandman30s 12:54, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed for Deletion

Just in case you didn't see it, one of the articles you created yesterday, Blomby Car, has been proposed for deletion with the prod tag. Just a heads-up. --PresN 19:22, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

No, I don't think it should be deleted, though it'd be nice if there was some moer information about it in the article. And part of the reason that New Article Announcements seems to have died is that since school started, a lot less articles have been made by the biggest contributors, while I also stopped scanning the new pages page for game related articles. I probably shoud start doing that again. --PresN 23:58, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
It's easier than that- I just removed the tag, and provided a reason why in the summary. The article could use some more information, though, closer to the article I linked to in the section above this one. --PresN 01:09, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
In view of the reply from JzG the next step is totake it to WP:DRV. BlueValour 23:39, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
