[edit] Stubs

Hello,

Thank you for your stub submission. You may wish to note that it is preferable to use a stub template from Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types instead of using simply {{stub}}, if you can.

Thanks! For computing-related articles, you can use {{Compu-stub}} or pick a more specific category from the stub category list. Thanks! Woodshed 04:39, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I will only use the generic stub template in the most dire of emergencies from now on. Salad Days 06:08, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Edit summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. Metros232 16:12, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I will try to make a habit of doing so. Thanks for the suggestion. Salad Days 06:08, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] School-stubs

Hi! Thanks for sorting schools into {{school-stub}}. I just wanted to let you know that all US states and Canadian provinces have their own stub template along the format of x-school-stub (exception: Georgia in the US is GeorgiaUS-school-stub). Could you use these in the future where relevant? Thanks! Aelfthrytha 03:12, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

I see! Thanks for the suggestion. Salad Days 03:20, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Video Game Article

Hey! I saw that you created a new video game related article- consider joining the Computer and Video Games WikiProject! I have added your article to the list of new articles, and attributed it to you. --PresN 19:20, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the link! I'll be sure to read your documentation! Salad Days 19:24, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikify tag

Hello!

I work on the Wikify project and I've noticed you putting the wikify tag on tons of articles. (You're certainly keeping us busy!) I wondered if I could ask you a favour? There is a bot which usually changes {{Wikfy}} to {{wikify-date|September 2006}}, but it doesn't seem to be working at the moment. Would you mind adding the date specific tag from the begining for the time being? It would make it a bit easier for us to keep track of where we are! Thank you :)

-Ladybirdintheuk 08:39, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Sure, no problem! Salad Days 17:27, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Prod reason

I noticed the prod reason you gave for an article. Even if the article is indeed crap, it would be better if you gave a more specific reason. See, calling an article crap is not very civil. Just keep this in mind. —this is messedrocker (talk) 05:58, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PROD of an article

Hello! You prodded this article with the reason of "LOL". Thanks for helping to rid Wikipedia of junk, but I have two suggestions if you would like to continue prodding deletion-worthy articles:

  • It's helpful to leave a more understandable deletion reason, because the reason appears e.g. in the table at WP:PRODSUM.
  • In the case of this article, speedy deletion via the {{db-attack}} template would have been quicker.

Thanks again and have a good day. Sandstein 07:02, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

I see. I appear to have been under the mistaken impression that the "prodding" system was somehow automatic, but my entries appear to be under scrutiny. I will have to make my comments less frivolous from now on, it seems. Salad Days 07:04, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Anus-star.jpg

Hey, I noticed you nominated this for IfD, but you didn't put the actual nomination on the IfD page. If you want this deleted, you should put it on the page so the deletion can be discussed. Thanks, --Mr. Lefty Talk to me! 01:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jeez edits

Re: this edit and this edit, we don't generally move things to Wiktionary when they're already in Wiktionary. —Wknight94 (talk) 02:29, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

I see. The prod reason of "Dictdef." made that unclear. Sorry about that. Salad Days 03:04, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
It's implied that the word is already in Wiktionary since that's the only reason to bring dictionary definitions to WP:PROD in the first place. Would you mind re-adding the prod to those two articles? It's frowned on for the original prodder to re-prod after it's been removed. Otherwise, I need to bother people at AFD. Thanks. —Wknight94 (talk) 03:12, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
Okay. Salad Days 03:13, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Useless

Hi Salad Days, I am puzzled... why did you create a redirect from Template:Useless to Template:Reqphoto ? Is does not seem to have any use, and I am thinking of listing it for deletion, but maybe I missed someting ? Schutz 10:24, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

It has the use of any template redirect, it's an alternative. Salad Days 14:21, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
But why do you need the alternative, especially with a name that is clearly not linked to the redirected template ? Barring any real use, I'll probably list the redirect for deletion. Schutz 15:37, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] link to persian

Hello, when you want to link to the article about something Persian, please do not link to Persian, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as Persian people, Persian language, or Iran, by writing out [[Persian language|Persian]] or [[Iran|Persian]]. Regards, Jeff3000 03:45, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

I have no idea what article you're talking about, but thanks for the suggestion. I didn't realize disambiguation pages had such a bizzare rule attached to them. I guess I will have to be more careful when trying to wikify things, which is somewhat discouraging. Salad Days 05:20, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Bascially he means to check pages that could easily mean more then one thing before you link to them. If they are disambig pages, pick the one that you meant to link to originally. Anyway, it's not required and you wont get blocked for missing one or two links or forgetting. 68.39.174.238 00:04, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

You shouldn't be removing the {{uncategorized}} tag from articles just because you've added a stub category. They don't really count. —Xezbeth 17:12, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Whoops, sorry about that. Salad Days 17:13, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question

Was there a reason for adding "Fraud" to Image:Profgeorge.jpg? I'll admit the (User) page it's on is nonsense, but I'm not sure I see the reason for updating the image like that. 68.39.174.238

I was hoping someone would notice and suggest it for deletion. Also, it amused me. Salad Days 02:21, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] UAV specs tables templates

The tables are gorgeous...I now developing them took a lot of time and effort on your part, and it's very much appreciated! To show my thanks, I hereby award you the Wikipedia:WikiProject Aircraft version of a barnstar, the Wikiwings. Wear them proudly, you've earned them.

Wikiwings 2.0

Wikiwings are the official award of WikiProject Aircraft. Styled after military flight wings, they are awarded to anyone who makes extensive, high-quality, or generally valued contributions to the area of aviation on wikipedia. They can be awarded by anyone, to anyone, in a barnstar-like fashion.

The wikiwings award is modelled after Rlandmann's wikiwings award, and were officially adopted by WikiProject Aircraft on October 29, 2005.

Akradecki 03:16, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Awesome, thank you! Salad Days 03:24, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikification template

As someone who updates and works on the wikification progress template, what do you think of this recent trend of updating it every 5 minutes when 1 article is done? I am finding it particularly bothersome and unproductive as it doesn't allow us to see the big picture (as in, over the last 24 hours June is down 39, July down 5, etc. for a total of -10). Do you have any thoughts on these updates? Metros232 12:55, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

In my opinion the updating would be best done by a script, or better yet, a hardcoded category-count-constant. In the absence of a technical solution however, we apparently have to rely on whoever enjoys updating it, and I don't want to be the one to piss them off and stop entirely. I agree with your assessment that the current rate is overzealous and unneccessary. Salad Days 20:31, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] World of Warcraft

[edit] Global Hawk info box

I've copied your box from the history page to RQ-4 Global Hawk. All the text from the history page will eventually be moved, too. Same will happen for the other UAVs on the history page. Just thought you'd like to know...you might want to see about adding one of the Global Hawk images into the box. Akradecki 22:38, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

No problem, all you have to do is add: |image=imagename.jpg to the list of specs. I was thinking about adding a third red bar at the bottom of the infobox to link to Unmanned Aerial Vehicle... what do you think? Salad Days 02:15, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Sounds like something to try! Akradecki 04:59, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
The link color looks like ass against the BG color. Salad Days 05:14, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm...I see what you mean by the color. I tried what you said about the image, on the RQ-1 Predator page...cool! Akradecki 05:23, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I re-edited the borders and colors and font sizes on the template to match the "new things that are happening" on the front page of wikipedia. I think it looks pretty good, so I will leave it this way for now. Have I missed converting any? Salad Days 06:09, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Looks good, although I say that with slightly mixed feelings. I personally really liked the red, but the blue definitely looks more like the rest of the WP system. Akradecki 16:33, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I liked the red too, I will play the colorscheme in my sandbox and see if I can find a compromise that doesn't make the link color look aweful. Salad Days 16:47, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] UAV layout opinion sought

Since you're now involved with how UAV pages look, I'd like to get an opinion on a layout question, on Talk:Unmanned aerial vehicle. Thanks! Akradecki 04:44, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Need help with UAV info box

Hi, need some help here. I've uploaded an image of the MQ-1 that I'd like to use in the infobox on MQ-1 Predator instead of the existing image. I tried it (here [1] for the historical version before I put it back to pre-experimental status), and while I could get the image to appear in regular text, it wouldn't appear inside the info box. When you have time, would you mind looking at the historical link I just listed and seeing what I did wrong, and then edumacating me? Thanks! Akradecki 01:06, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Use an equals sign, not a colon. An easy mistake to make! Salad Days 02:12, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Duh! Thanks! Akradecki 13:48, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lorcha

I removed you prod from the artticle Lorcha since I think that the content is arguably notable. I don't have a strong opinion on whether it should be kept, merged into All in the Same Boat, or even deleted through AfD but didn't feel that the proper course was obvious enough for prod. Eluchil404 09:52, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Okay. Thanks for the notice. Salad Days 12:24, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deprod Mobile phone parking

I've deprodded and moved this odd article to the generic "mobile phone micropayment", since there seems to be enough written about that globally. --Mereda 13:12, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Ah, good solution! Salad Days 16:45, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Teledyne Ryan M-350 UAV

I love the edit summary! Akradecki 03:16, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Ahhh, I was coming here to ask about that...having just reverted it. In all honestly I thought that was added by the original responsible party, "LOL"! Now who WAS purple in the original game...? 68.39.174.238 09:54, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
I think it's slot four in multiplayer. It's too bad Ghost was abandoned, perhaps I should dig out my copy of SC and reinstall it... Salad Days 16:24, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Prod removal explanation-Malcolm Stogo

Unbelievable as it may seem, it appears this guy is quite real. [2] Whether or not he's notable is another question entirely, but that's better resolved through AfD. Seraphimblade 09:21, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

How odd. Thanks for the link. Salad Days 13:38, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help!

{{helpme}} I believe this gentleman: Lakshman Madurasinghe has uploaded photographs of his degrees[3] and wants them added to his article. I'm not entirely convinced that his personal photohost is a reliable source, and I would appreciate it greatly if someone else could take a look at the article, please. Thanks for your help! Salad Days 15:24, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Tell him editing his own article is against WP:AUTO, and read up WP:NOTNearly Headless Nick {L} 15:46, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, he keeps reverting everything, but thanks for your help I guess. Salad Days 15:53, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

With reference to your edit [4] you have suggested that hardcopy" publications which are unverifiable I would like to place my reservations over that. No where in Wikipedia it is given that only Online Sources are Verifiable. I am afraid that you are perpetuating Systemic Bias with such opinions  Doctor Bruno  08:52, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, my copy of Religions, volume I[5] says "It is ancient buddhist knowledge that Doctor Bruno is a big stick in the mud." If you want, I'm sure we can ask "Professor" Madurasinghe to fabricate some more book covers and I can pull more quotes out of my ass. Salad Days 21:38, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
May be you need a book to know about me, but as far as you are concerned, Your words themselves tell me about you. No need for any book. I was my mistake to have interacted with people like you.  Doctor Bruno  02:26, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
You are of course welcome to your opinion. But you should be aware that you are about to become the embarrassing subject of a Broadway play which I am currently writing. You will be played by Max von Sydow who will have a Ming the Merciless beard, and I am thinking about casting Patrick Stewart to play the role of Salad Days, the tormented, passionate artist and beloved underdog. Salad Days 02:44, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Late Thanks

You've welcomed me on my talk page when I became a user and I thanked you there. But now (yes, NOW finally >.>;;; ) it's occurred to me to thank you on your talk page. So, thanks for the welcome! :) -WarthogDemon 19:34, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Of course! Good luck in your wiki-ing! Salad Days 21:23, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A second barnstar

The Barnstar of Good Humor
A second one for Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Lakshman Madurasinghe -- made me laugh hard. utcursch

P.S. Feel free to move the barnstar to your user page. I didn't know where to put it on your user page -- it has got too many things. utcursch | talk 13:02, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey, thank you. I was sort of expecting to get yelled at for that! Salad Days 15:31, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Userboxes

Hey Salad Days! I came across your page while browsing, and liked three of your userboxes - I ching, magic8ball, and dice - and wondered if I could use/copy them? --Firien § 10:59, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Of course you can! I moved them to their own sections so all you have to do is paste the shortcuts:
{{User:Salad Days/Userboxes/User I Ching}}
{{User:Salad Days/Userboxes/User Magic 8-ball}}
{{User:Salad Days/Userboxes/User 1d20}}

Oh yeah, they won't generate a new random number until the page is edited again, or your force the server to purge the cache. A simple page refresh won't cut it. That's why I made the "purge" userbox when I was working on those. Salad Days 17:04, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Odd... they randomised fine when I had a look, since otherwise I would have assumed they were fixed and they meant something at the time... anyway, thanks for the note on resolution - I've got 1280 on this screen and never thought about it. Resizing down I've found out how ugly that overlap looks, so I'll tweak things around a bit :) --Firien § 08:12, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, they randomise fine when clicking the "preview" button, and it took me a while to figure out what the hell was going on. Good luck! Salad Days 13:52, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
