SABC 3

SABC3 is a commercial South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) television channel that carries programming in English.
It was created in 1996, after the SABC restructured its television channels. It inherited many of its programs from TV1, South Africa's apartheid-era "white" channel TV1.

SABC3 is targeted at South Africa's affluent English-speaking community. The channel's primary target market is viewers aged 18 to 49.
SABC3 screens a combination of international programming from the United States and United Kingdom, as well as locally produced soaps, talk shows and drama series.
International Series:
Amongst the four SABC Channels (SABC 1, SABC 2, SABC 3 and SABC Africa), SABC 3 was the only SABC channel to feature a large content of International Series. SABC had deals with studio companies in the US and Deals with Various Television Networks in the UK to air some series with a few months delay from their international airdates.

Local Productions
SABC3 flights several highly rated South African-produced shows.
Isidingo: The Need (Weekdays 18h30) One of SABC3's first local productions was its hit series Isidingo: The Need (renamed in 2001 as simply "Isidingo"). This multi-racial soap followed the lives of a small mining community through thier daily dramas and tribulations. The series premiered in 1998 and always brought solid ratings for the channel in the highly covetend 18:30 timeslot. In 2001, under instructions from SABC3, Edenmol Studios (which produces Isidingo) and Grey Hofmeyer ("Mama Jack" (2005), Shadows), were to change the soap into a modern and more glamours soap to reflect that of the channel. The series focus shifted away from the mining industry towards that of a fictitious television station and a strong media empire, Hainess International.
While SABC3's highest-rated local series continues to be Isidingo, other recent productions include Hard Copy a drama series set in the boardroom of fictitious newspaper The Bulletin. The series has always been successful in its Wednesdays 9pm timeslot. The show's third season premiered in 2006.
SABC3 continued licensing and producing other local productions, including local versions of international shows like NBC's The Apprentice" (which also aired on SABC3) and the BBC's "The Weakest Link". The Weakest Link became SABC3's highest-rated local show, but the local version of The Apprentice which launched in 2005, didn't get the ratings of the original American show. The show was hosted by well-known South African businessman Tokyo Sexwale.
Ratings and Scheduling:
SABC3 ranks fourth out of South Africa's five analogue channels. The country's top channels are SABC1, e-tv and [[SABC2] ], while pay-channel MNet has the smallest audience.

From the schedule, the 18h30 (which is the toughest timeslot) is SABC 3's second highest timeslot and 17:50 is SABC's highest timeslot. The news at 7' o clock or the program at 19h30 is either the third or fourth highest rated.

Target Market and Competition:
SABC3 targets predominantly English speaking Male and Female Audience viewers (18-49). Their rival competition is M-Net who targets the same audience as well as eTV which also seeks that target audience.
