Rotom (ロトム Rotomu?) is one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Rotom in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.
The name Rotom seems to be a portmanteau of rotation and atom.
[edit] Biology
Rotom's appearance would be considered quite strange. The Pokémon seems to resemble nothing more but a red sphere with a face similar to Castform's, a single red spike on top of and small red bump underneath, resembling the character Pulseman from a previous Game Freak title of the same name. Rotomu is covered by a whitish-glow with two appendages shaped like lightning bolts. As a matter of fact, Rotom's body is supposed to be made of plasma. Rotom are said to sneak into electrical appliances and short them out.
[edit] In the games
Rotom is one of 107 new Pokémon that were introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Rotomu can be found in the Hakutai House at night.
Rotom is the first Pokémon to be an Electric and Ghost type. Its special ability is Levitate, which gives it an immunity to Ground-type attacks that would be super-effective against it otherwise.
