Ross Patterson Alger

Ross Patterson Alger Born at Prelate, Saskatchewan in 1920, Ross Alger moved to Alberta with his family in the 1930s.
In 1942, he attended the University of Alberta, receiving a Bachelor of Commerce degree. After serving four and one half years in the R.C.A.F., he returned to school and received an MBA from the University of Toronto. In 1947, he married the former Lois MacQueen and moved to Calgary where he began a career in accounting.
Mr. Alger became a Public School Board Trustee in 1958 and subsequently became Chairman of that body. In 1971, he was appointed Chairman of the Citizens Budget Commission and the same year, won a seat on City Council.
In 1974, he made an unsuccessful bid for the mayoralty, losing to Rod Sykes. Three years later he ran again and was elected Mayor, winning thirteen of the fourteen wards. Ross Alger served one term [1]
