Rose (Keeping Up Appearances)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rose is a fictional character in the British comedy television series "Keeping Up Appearances". She was portrayed by two actresses, Shirley Stelfox (in the first series) and the late Mary Millar.
Rose is Hyacinth Bucket's sister and is the only one who is unmarried, although apparently she was once married since in one episode she muses: 'I wonder if I should marry again'. She is known to be flirtatious when it comes to finding men and then dropping them like flies. Her outfits are often designed to make her look like a prostitute, even though she does not think of herself as one and at times has to defend herself against these accusations from either Onslow or Hyacinth. She is always willing to involve herself in Hyacinth's life in order to get another chance to chase the (married) Vicar or Hyacinth's neighbor, Emmet, both of whom are scared of her. The Vicar's wife calls her the Vampire Sister.
Rose lives with Onslow and Daisy and her father known as "daddy" in a council house. Rose's surname is never given in the series, though other sources have referred to her as "Rose Bucket", which is impossible since it is Hyacinth's married name.
In the first series (1990), she was played by Shirley Stelfox. She was replaced by Mary Millar from series 2 onward.
