Rock N Roll is an album by Ryan Adams, released on November 4, 2003. The album features the hit single "So Alive," and includes guest appearances by Parker Posey, former Hole and Smashing Pumpkins bass player Melissa Auf Der Maur, and Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong.
The album was a reaction to Adams' record label, Lost Highway's refusal of his Love Is Hell album, claiming it was depressing and not up to Ryan's potential. "Rock N' Roll" was Ryan's quickly put together response to the rejection. The hastiness that resulted in the album received criticism from the media and fans alike. Ironically, Love Is Hell was released on the same day as Rock N' Roll (in the form of two EP's, with the second being released weeks after). More ironically, the title track is the only song in the record which is not a typical rock'n'roll song, being a slow, sad piano-driven tune.
There were several covers for this album, with the CD and vinyl releases differing from each other.
