[edit] Biography
Remy grew up in the Castle Hill section of The Bronx. Her life was anything but pleasant, where drug addictions, child prostitution, and HIV/AIDS-infections were present in her family, which ultimately left the children and home to Remy. She had to look after her four younger brothers and sisters and do household chores. She did rather well in school, but always needed a way to vent anger. She began writing poetry and turned it into raps. She held freestyle rap battles with children in the cafeteria and even people on the streets of Castle Hill. People began to speak of Remy and her impressive freestyles. After hearing of Remy, Big Pun instantly wanted to work with her. He mentored Remy for quite sometime up until his death, a tragic event in Remy's life.
[edit] Terror Squad
After Big Pun's death, Fat Joe signed Remy to his new record label, SRC Records under Universal Records and made her a member of Terror Squad. Remy Ma got the attention of hip-hop fanatics in the summer hit of 2004 "Lean Back" along side Fat Joe in Terror Squad. Upon her arrival in the group, fans named her as the best rapper of the group along with Fat Joe, some fans even named her as the best member because of her lyrical abilities. Her debut album therefore received some attention from her Hip-Hop fans because of her verse in the single "Lean Back". Remy Martin was also featured in the "Lean Back" remix with Fat Joe, Ma$e, Lil Jon & Eminem.
[edit] Solo career
Remy has released five singles from her album There's Something About Remy: "Whuteva" , "Conceited", "Feels So Good", "Thug Love" and " "Lights Camera Action". "Conceited" was the most successful, however the album was largely a commercial failure selling only 125,000 units. The album got 3.5 mics from The Source magazine. Remy has plans to re-release the album or release another album before Summer 2007.
Rumor has it that Remy might be signing with Virgin Records as she has displayed her frustration with SRC & Universal over the promotion of her debut album. She has also expressed her problems with Fat Joe on the business side as far as saying "We can still be friends but we just can't do business together." If the rumor is true about her signing with Virgin there might still be tension between her & Fat Joe as he has also signed onto Virgin to release his next album "Me, Myself & I" which drops on November 14,2006.
