Rebelde Way ("Rebel's Way") is an Argentine telenovela produced by Cris Morena The series ran for two seasons, the final episode airing in Argentina on 2004.

The series is set in the Elite Way School, a prestigious private boarding middle school near Buenos Aires, attended by the adolescent children of some of Argentina's wealthiest citizens (as well as gifted becados — students with scholarships). The school's faculty and the parents often have their own subplots as well. One feature of the show is the random use of English words and phrases to accurately display the rude manners and buffoonish behavior of the upper class.

One of the series' major plot lines revolves around a group of students forming a band. The actors who play the members of this band are also in a real band, written Erreway to distinguish it from the show. Erreway performs most of the music used on the show, and has been extremely successful in its own right, becoming one of the highest-grossing acts in Argentina and touring internationally.

Later, Televisa purschased the rights and made the mexican version called "Rebelde". Star Plus One also bought the rights and made the hugely succefull Remix, the hindu version. Two pilots were made for a Brazilian version (in 2002) and one for Spain (in 2003), but none were approved. The Mexican version became a huge hit in Brazil in 2005, and both versions — the Mexican and the Argentinean — are currently very popular in Spain.

[edit] Characters

[edit] Girls

[edit] Mía Colucci

Mía Colucci — Quintessential daddy's little girl. Many plotlines follow her love life, which mostly concerns her and Manuel's star-crossed love but also included a relationship with a prefect. She is the only daughter of Franco Colucci, a fashion design tycoon. Being an only child, she was overprotected by her father and acts like a spoiled brat most of the time. Represents the typical "ditzy bimbo", as some of her quotes seem childish and immature at times (she constantly tells people about the hardships of being herself). However, she is deeply loyal to her friends (mostly to Vico and Felicitas). Has a comic rivalry with Sol Rivarola. She is deeply in love with Manuel Aguirre, and is considered to be the love of her life, despite that both of them couldn't stand each other at the beginning of the series (even now, when Mia gets mad at Manuel, she calls him "azteca").

[edit] Marizza Pía Spirito

Marizza Pía Spirito — daugther of Sonia Rey, she didn't like Mía Colucci in the beginning, but later becomes Mia's sister ( Sonia and Franco marry ).

Marizza is the cleverest girl in the school. She can find a way out of any difficult situation.

she likes pablo very much and so does he but they both dont show it until the end...

[edit] Felicitas Mitre

Felicitas Mitre — Overweight girl who has an eating disorder, and often wallows in self-pity because she never had a boyfriend. She is best friends with Vico and Mia. She even went as far as establishing a friendship with Sol, despite her being Mia's sworn rival, up until the point where she realized that Sol attempted to steal away Felicitas' love interest. Felicitas is often insecure, although noble at heart she is very kind and shy.

[edit] Victoria "Vico" Paz

Victoria "Vico" Paz — Mía's friend, with a reputation for being easy. Recently became Guido's girlfriend and found love. Her relationship with Guido did not last due to a misunderstanding on her part. Vico comes from a family with a twisted background: her mother left her and her father at a young age, which triggered her father's alcoholism. As a result, Vico was at the blunt end of her father's physical abuse and psychological torment. Thanks to Rocco and professor Miranda, they manage to put Vico's father in rehab, which puts Rocco under a new light in Vico's eyes (she couldn't stand Rocco's stalking ways before). Due to her vast experience with men, she likes to play with their feelings.

[edit] Luján Linares

Luján Linares — Quintessential female athlete, raised in foster care. Her tuition is paid by a mysterious anonymous benefactor. Had a relationship with Teo. She is Marriza best friend, as both share an explosive attitude and overall rudeness. Has been under the harassment of prefect Blas for quite a while, leading her to investigate on the reason why Blas' grudge towards her. However, due to her meddling in Blas's obscure past, she has triggered the rage of the prefect, who now desperately wants her out of the way. Lujan not only finds out that Blas is her benefactor, but also more like her personal guardian since she was just a little girl. Lujan comes to appreciate Blas' efforts, and even justifies Blas' harsh methods and constant abuse. However, their time together is cut short when Blas dies after enduring a severe car crash.

[edit] Luna Fernández

Luna Fernández — Shy girl who is close friend of both Marizza, Mía and Lujan. Constantly tries to do the 'right thing' though most of her friends are rebellious. She is considered as the most responsible girl in school, studious, and often caring about her companions. She tends to overreact when she is worried (which is pretty often, considering her insecure demeanor and how much she cares for her close ones), which also leads her to stuter. She once had a very solid relationship with Nico. She has a little sister that is sick. Her relationship with Nico was in peril because she was Catholic and Nico was Jewish. She has the complete support from her aunt, Sandra who is close to being a mother. Luna decides to Leave school with Nico so she can be close to her little sister.

[edit] Pilar Dunoff

Pilar Dunoff — Daughter of the school´s principal, who is disliked by most of the other students for that reason. The students also dislike her because she is a "chismosa" ("gossiper"). At the beginning of the story she used to write – anonymously – a newspaper filled with gossip called Periodico Truchos ("anonymous"). At the beginning, she is cold and ruthless (especially towards Mia and her friends), causing her to pair up with the equally malicious Sol De La However, due to her parents' divorce and her relationship with Tomas, she has came to her senses and begins to socialize a bit more. She perfectly fits in the 'scorned woman' category, as she has a habit to get herself even in a drastic way when men cheat on her.

[edit] Sol Rivarola

Sol Rivarola — A top model wannabe. She hates Mia, and wants her to feel inferior to her at all costs. Cynical and deceptive, Sol wants things to go her way no matter what, and could be considered the only student in the Elite Way School whose intentions are not noble no matter what the situation is. She is willing to ruin people's lives without regard of their personal feelings, and does so via a multitude of convincing lies (although most of the time her plans tend to backfire). She could be considered a wolf in sheep's clothing. She legitmately hates Mia, whom she considers to always be pushing her down. Her father is against her dreams of being a top model. Even though she has all of the model features because she is very beautiful.

[edit] Fernanda Byron

Fernanda Byron — Marizza, Laura and Lujan's new roommate who is stuck-up and proud of her English family (by her step father's side). The girls make fun of her because she greatly extends her ties to English royalty and believes herself superior. She is very fashionable and caused Marcos to break-up with Lujan.

[edit] Laura Arregui

Laura Arregui — New girl at the Elite Way School. Becomes Marizza's new roommate and soon very good friend. She has blond hair and is little miss perfect because she is very smart. Laura is supposively a role model to her little sister Lola. She loves her little sister but hates it when Lola treats her like garbage. She falls in love with Francisco but when she realized Lola was in love with him too she decided to disappear those feelings. She ends up falling in love with Guido.

[edit] Lola Arregui

Lola Arregui — The younger sister of Laura. All her life her parents pressured her to be like Laura, which made her dislike her sister. Lola does not lose the opportunity to insult and scorn her sister at any given chance, and blames Laura for most of her problems. She often uses her friend Bianca to do her dirty work. She had a short affair with Pablo, which was brought down due to Lola's immaturity. Lola considers herself to be all alone in this world and that no one could ever love her. It has recently been revealed that Lola is an adopted child, and therefore, not biologically related to Laura or her parents, which gives Lola a new perspective on her life.

[edit] Bianca

Bianca — A shy girl that studies with Lola, is her best friend, and always does whatever Lola says. But, she has been changing and becoming more independent. She also had a crush on Rocco.

[edit] Guys

[edit] Manuel Aguirre

Manuel Aguirre — His sister and mother live in Mexico whom he can never afford to visit because he is on a scholarship to the Elite Way in Argentina. Also for this reason he was harassed by a secret society of alumni known as "La Logia". He is in Elite Way to avenge for what the Colucci family did to his family, but later forgets his vengeful plans. Manuel developed a huge love for Mía Colucci (despite the fact that he found her to be extremely annoying at the beginning of the series) and they are an on-again, off-again relationship. They are still and always have been madly in love with each other. Manuel has a strong sense of pride and dignity that often gets in the way of common sense. He finds himself in huge trouble with Mia after allegedly cheating on her with Sabrina Guzmán after a heavy drinking session (although this presumably never happened, but is furthered due to Sabrina's intention of binding Manuel to her side and the fact that Manuel was drunk when the "cheat" occurred), and now tries desperately to win her back.

[edit] Pablo Bustamante

Pablo Bustamante — Has problems standing up to his chauvinistic, domineering father, who disapproves of his musical ambitions. His love interest is Marizza, although he denies it for quite some time, instead dating random young ladies to prove that he does not have a fixation on Marizza. Far from acting like a spoiled kid, Pablo wants to break free from his father's iron grasp and come out on his own. During some time, he was denied any privileges from his father, which forced Pablo to work with Guido's parents at their butcher shop to gain his means to subsist. His best friends are Tomas and Guido. Has recently given in for his feelings towards Marizza, although he now faces opposition in the shape of his cynical future stepbrother, Javier Alanis.

[edit] Tomas Ezcurra

Tomas Ezcurra — He is Pablo's best friend and shares room with him and his other best friend, Guido.

[edit] Guido Lassen

Guido Lassen — hides his low-class parentage and tries not to act like "new money". Coming from a rather poor family, Guido always shoots for a chance at easy money. He is also a hopeless womanizer, unable to remain faithful to just one woman (which mostly explains why his relationship with Vico ended in failure). His best friends are Pablo and Tomas. He is the character who engages in the most comical situations, due to his crazy ideas for his own personal amusement. He gets into a relationship with Agustina, a rich girl who gives Guido expensive gifts at the drop of a dime, wooing Guido to her feet. His friends consider him a sellout, which splits Guido between his devotion to one woman and his fixation for expensive gifts.

[edit] Rocco Fuentes Echagüe

Rocco Fuentes Echagüe — A somewhat geeky and highly obnoxious student who passes his time by filming other students on his hand-held camera, which makes them mad. Rocco helped Marizza in many cases, making Marizza want to understand the cryptic boy. Rocco starts to make moves on Vico, stemming from Vico's reputation of being "easy", but later on, he falls for her for real. He tries his best to help out Vico in her troubled times, despite Vico's refusal and constant rejects. It seems his attempts pay off during a school trip Vico finally opens her heart to Rocco. Rocco also has great singing potential, as he sings a couple of songs throughout the series.

[edit] ICK-KUM http://rebeldewayro.tripod.com/

Nico Provenza — A Jewish teen who is pressured by his family to dump his Catholic girlfriend (Luna) in favor of his childhood sweetheart. Introverted, hates outdoor activities. Nico decides to leave with Luna to San Luis so they can be together always.

[edit] Francisco Blanco

Francisco Blanco — This is Tomas cousin. He's from a small town, a fighter, and from the get-go, Pablo does not like him. He has a crush on Luna, but Lola thinks he likes her.

[edit] Diego

Diego — Diego is a student in the class he helps Pablo spy on Marizza while they were doing their campaign. He then after lies to Marizza

[edit] Ivan

Ivan — He is passionately in love with Marizza. He fakes an illness to gain her interest.

[edit] Adults

[edit] Franco Colucci

Franco Colucci —He is a high-end fashion designer & Father of Mía. Manuel works for him, which made Franco grow affection for him and treat him like the son he never had. Franco is known as "Daddy" by most of the Elite Way School (since that is how Mia calls him all the time). Franco feels some remorse for overprotecting Mia and spoiling her in the process. Franco and Sonia Rey often engage in heated discussions, since Franco despises the kind of ladies that Sonia seems to represent (Sonia often calls Franco "cement face" when she gets angry at him), but as is usual in these cases, they end up falling in love. Franco also shares a similar trait with Sonia: he has not told her daughter Mia that her mother is still alive (Mia is under the impression that her mother died when she was very young), while Sonia has kept the real identity of Marizza's father also under wraps.

[edit] Sonia Rey

Sonia Rey — A famous model and singer who is very sexy and gets the attention of the students easily. That makes Marizza, her daughter, somewhat jealous, because her mother gets more attention than her. She is a single mother, even though she used the last name of one of her lovers to give her daughter Marizza a true family name. She overprotects her Marizza, or (Marizzita) although unlike Mia, Marizza is not very fond of her mom always getting cuddly around her and tends to shun her off. Sonia has hidden the true identity of her real father all this time (which is Martin Andrade), and once Marizza discovers the truth, she gets terribly mad with Sonia, and decides not to speak with her, which breaks Sonia's heart. She is supported by her current love interest and fiancee, Franco Colucci, which brings her another dilemma, since Franco is Mia's father (who is very fond of Sonia but jealous of the women who dates her father).

[edit] Sergio Bustamante

Sergio Bustamante — Pablo's father and a well known politician. Strict man, who always wants to win at all costs. He always gets what he wants, he even pays a prostitute to sleep with his son, so he could lose his virginity, but in the end this resulted on Pablo falling in love with her. The relationship did not last much after he found out why she met him. He is recently dating a woman who has a son named Javier, who becomes Pablo's rival.

[edit] Director Marcel Dunoff

Director Marcel Dunoff — Power-hungry head of the school who often takes pleasure in the misfortune of the students. Has poor knowledge of English. Even though he tries to be an imposing authority figure, he comes out more as a dim-witted principal who is easily manipulated not only by his superiors but also by the same students he wants to control. Sometimes, his antics and raging outbursts come out as comical rather than menacing (especially his silly evil laugh). Also tends to act clumsy when in the presence of a gorgeous woman. Is going through a divorce with his wife, since she considers him to be 'weak' and 'easily manipulated' by Pablo's father (the legal owner of the Elite Way School). Despite his clumsy attitude, he still loves his daughter Pilar very much and only wishes for her well being.

[edit] Blas Heredia

Blas Heredia — The new prefect, who is as unpleasant as the first prefect. He has a huge crush on Mía, and they finally began a relationship to the disapproval of Mía's father. Mía went out with Blas to get Manuel (her true love) jealous. His past could also be as obscure as Blas', as indicated by further investigations made by Lujan, whom Blas likes to donwgrade and humilliate at any given chance. Lujan stole his laptop, and finds information that leads her to believe that Blas is her secret benefactor, but Blas repeatedly denies it. After a while, Blas gets annoyed by Lujan's meddling with his past affairs, and decides to get her out of the way once and for all. In reality, Blas' father (Ricardo Sisniega) took care of Lujan when she was a dirty street orphan because she had saved his life (although how she did so is still unknown). Blas' father had always compared Lujan's strength of will to Blas' weak spirit, which fueled Blas' anger. When his father died in prison, Blas was forced to look after Lujan and see to her tuition as per his father's last wish. Although Blas tried to blame Lujan for his miserable existence, he really did love Lujan like a sister, as he admitted to in his final breath. He died after being involved in a heavy car accident.

[edit] Sandra Fernández

Sandra Fernandez — Luna's Aunt and works in the cafeteria of the Elite Way School. Luna's mother doesn't like this because she thinks Sandra is a bad example for Luna, because she used to be a prostitute when she was young.

[edit] Santiago Mansilla

Santiago Mansilla — bohemian ethics professor who is always trying to solve everyone's problems.

[edit] Worldwide Phenomenon

Rebelde Way was a big hit in it's home country, Argentina, becoming the highest-rated show on Canal 9 soon after it's premiere. Luisana Lopilato became a regular on magazine covers and in gossip magazines and so did Camila Bordonaba, Felipe Colombo and Benjamin Rojas. The show spawned cosmetics, clothing lines, ice-creams, sunglasses, notebooks, magazines and many other products.

Erreway, the band, achieved platinum certification on the first week the album "Señales" was put on stores.

But the biggest phenomenon was in Israel, where the show soon went to become the biggest teenage phenomenon ever. The four leads did over 20 commercials for different brands and in their first visit to Israel with the cast, they caused mass hysteria in Tel Aviv. They had to change hotels two times and the private party held for the cast was attended by the country biggest celebrities and politics (with their sons). The 200,000 tickets for the 20 concerts in a basketball stadium, selling for over 50 dollars, sold out in minutes. The most important newspapers in Israel had the "Hamordim" (The Rebels, the name for the show in Israel) phenomenon in it's first page.

Rebelde Way also caused mass-hysteria in Republica Dominicana, Peru and many other countries around Latin-America, where the show was hugely popular among teens.

In 2004, Jetix Spain bought the rights to the show and it was so succeful on cable that regional channel Localia bought the rights and the show soo premiered on national television. The four leads became big stars, being on the cover of every teen magazine in Spain and their album topped the Spanish charts for two weeks. The signing sessions held at four El Corte Ingles in Madrid, Vigo, Murcia and Valencia were attended by over 20,000 fans. Erreway will reunite for the first time since they split in early 2005 for four concerts in the country.

Rebelde Way was also sold to Germany (were it aired on the local Nickelodeon) and to Austria.
