Raw Toonage

Raw Toonage is a half hour Disney animated cartoon series aired on the CBS network in the fall of 1992. Twelve episodes total were produced (a thirteenth episode was in production, but was never finished).
The show was a proving ground of sorts for never before seen Disney characters, with shows like Marsupilami; and He's Bonkers!. The show also featured a free form section called Totally Tasteless Videos which tried out one shot character concepts.
Raw Toonage typically opened with an introduction by a famous character from Disney (such as Goofy), who attempted to share some of their expertise with the audience; then the show had a few of the above mentioned shorts chained in a row, rounding out the half hour.
Several of the cartoons in Raw Toonage were ultimately spun off into their own Disney series:
- Marsupilami
- He's Bonkers!, into Bonkers. He's Bonkers! had a different character idea than the half hour show it was spun off into; Bonkers D. Bobcat typically had somewhere to go in a hurry, causing misery for one Jitters A. Dog along the way. His girlfriend, Fawn Deer, rounds out the recurring characters in He's Bonkers!
The unique character set was not enough to maintain the series and its ratings, and it was cancelled after one half season. However, it does have a fan base today.
Reruns of the show were aired on both Disney Channel and Toon Disney.

[edit] Totally Tasteless Videos
- Badly Animated Man (episode 11, aired November 28, 1992): Introduced as, "Meet Badly Animated Man, the superhero who can leap over a tall building with a single drawing, and who wields a Two-Frame-a-Minute Punch." A survey of nearly all discussions of this Totally Tasteless Video on the Internet testify to its wit. Satirizing older and cheap superhero cartoons, the premise was that Badly Animated Man would intentionally use poor drawings to stop well-animated villains. The voice was provided by Gary Owens, who also was the original voice of the Hanna Barbera characters Space Ghost and Blue Falcon See Sum of all internet knowledge regarding Badly Animated Man for quotes, memories, and links regarding this segment. No releases of Raw Toonage are known to have been officially distributed, either to home video, or DVD. Any examples of material would likely have to come from VHS tapes made during the original airing.
