Power Line River Crossings in Britain

Electricity pylons in Britain are among the tallest structures in the country. The electricity pylons which carry the powerlines over the Thames Crossing in West Thurrock were constructed by BICC. The cables stretch 1300m (4,500ft) across the Thames, but it is not the longest powerline strung across a river in Britain. The longest known powerlines in Britain cross the Severn stretching 1700m (5,310ft) and stands at 148m (488ft) high.
The River Forth crossing just upriver of the Kincardine Bridge has a span of about 1130m (3,700ft).
West Thurrock's pylons have a minimum clearance of 76m (250ft) and stands 190m (630ft) high. Some suggest that the choice of this height was deliberate, being just taller than the BT Tower in London.
