[edit] Tables

I think that the table is the best way to present a lot of data at once. I'm not great at making tables, so if anyone wants to fix up the tables I've constructed for the Playoff Appearances, No-Hitters, and Career Statistics, please do so. T-mccool

[edit] Player Pages

I just added a pretty big Rob Mackowiak page, because he's a solid feature in the clubhouse that didn't have his own page. If anyone else wants to help eliminate the red on our Pirates page, get in touch. T-mccool

I have been adding infoboxes to the players pages (so far just the pitchers), categories, and external links as I go along. I will eventually get to everybody else, as it is it's slow going. I have no experience in baseball so let me know if I get anything wrong. Thanks --ImmortalGoddezz 20:31, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Allegheny, Pennsylvania

I have deleted references to the "Allegheny City Ballclub". There is no source (Baseball-reference.com, Baseballalmanac.com, Baseball Encylopedia etc. even the official website of the Pittsburgh Pirates that contends anything in the manner that the team was known as the Allegheny City Alleghenies or the Allegheny Alleghenies or simply as the one word (Maddonaesque) Alleghenies. If there is a source out there that can CONTRADICT the Pirates Organization, Baseball-reference, MLB, Baseball Almanac, and Baseball Encylopedia please let me know and please revert my edit on the Name section, I understand that Allegheny City was NOT Pittsburgh up until 1907, however much like other pro sports teams we do not say the "Davie, Florida Dolphins" or the "East Rutherford Giants" etc. The franchise was never to my extensive fact checking referred to as anything but "Pittsburgh". Please offer a reference if you wish to change any text relating to the early place name of the team. Thank you. Hholt01 06:09, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wrong ASG logo

I changed the logo for the 2006 MLB All-Star Game to the one that will be used. The one in use was a compormised version of the 1994 ASG logo. NoseNuggets 1:30 US EST Jan 31 2006.

[edit] Mascot

In the quick facts section it mentions a "new mascot" to be unveiled on april 16, 2006. We are now past that date, and I can find no reference to any new mascot anywhere. is anyone aware of a possible citation for this? Pelzo 03:35, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Opinions desired

On the subject of players pages... I've finished adding infoboxes to the Pitchers pages but have come across what seems to be a variety of opinions regarding the rest of the pages. Most of the pages (besides the pitchers) have no infoboxes, a few have them like José Hernández's (which is an infobox) and a few have them like José Castillo (which is a template). Personally I like the template better, for me it's easier to edit, and it seems easier to read. Not to mention that its design is like those on the pitchers pages. I would like to continue to edit the rest of the pages to create a unified look but I'm hesitant to change any of the existing player infoboxes/templates without some discussion on the subject. --ImmortalGoddezz 23:05, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Um I did all the rest of the players with the colored template things but if you wantto do more of these u should join wikiproject baseball players.Party29 23:53, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] All-Star Games

I'd like to move the "All-Star Games" section to its own article, since it's only tangentially relevant to the main topic. I would, of course, leave a couple sentences and a see-also link. I'll do this in about a week unless there are any objections. --M@rēino 16:58, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wait, what???

As I was reading this article, I came upon this in the "Trivia" section (emphasis my own):

"One crazy day -- On a single day during the 1911 season, the Pirates were in, out, back in, and back out of first place. On July 5th, the first place Pirates played an extra inning game into the next day. The second place team (who were 1/2 games back), the Miami Marlins, also played their July 5th game into the next day. At 12 am, the games had not been completed (thus the Pirates were in first place). At 12:05 am, the Pirates lost and at 12:17 am the Marlins won (the Pirates were now in second place). Later that day, both teams happened to have double-headers scheduled. The Marlins lost the first game at 4:38pm and the Pirates won their first game at 4:43 pm. The Pirates were back in first place. Later that day, the Pirates lost their second game of the DH at 10:10 pm and at 10:27, the Marlins won their second game. The Marlins were now in first place. By the end of the day on July 6th, the Pirates and Marlins had flip-floped in the standings on four seperate occasions."

There is something wrong with this, and it's not just the fact that it looks like a high school freshman formatted it. Firstly, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the "Miami" Marlins have never played in the same league. The "Miami" Marlins were an International League Class AAA franchise from 1956 to 1960, and a Florida State League Class A team from 1962-1970 and 1982-1988. But, if it is, in fact, the "Florida" Marlins, then the 1911 year is impossible, as the Marlins did not join the National League until 1993. Either the 1911 season section is wrong or the mislabeled team is wrong. I am removing this from the page until someone can correct it one way or the other. ToddC4176 18:08, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Questionable Calls

According to the "1980's and 1990's: The Leyland Era" section, the Pirates lost the 1991 and 1992 National League Championship Series to the Atlanta Braves on "questionable calls at the end of the final games." What were these questionable calls? If I recall correctly Jose Lind booted the grounder at second and Barry Bonds was playing too deep in left field. Sounds a little, oh, I don't know...
