Patriarch Germanos I of Constantinople
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Saint Germanos I was Patriarch of Constantinople from 715 to 730.
Appointed by Emperor Anastasios II, Patriarch Germanos negotiated his abdication after the victory of Theodosios III in 715.
In 730 Germanos resigned rather than subscribe to the iconoclast decree of Emperor Leo III, which he felt could not be enacted without an ecumenical council. He was replaced by an iconoclast patriarch, Anastasios, and died a few years later.
