[edit] Articles on cartoon shorts

Hi, Oanabay04. I wanted to explain my recent reverts of your changes to Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny. You removed the wikilinks (square brackets) from the titles of several cartoon shorts (for example, "Dripalong Daffy"). I reverted because there are several articles on such shorts on Wikipedia already, and there's no reason to suspect that the ones you removed are not valid subjects for articles of their own. See in particular Wikipedia:Build the web. Thanks, and I hope to run into you in the future! — BrianSmithson 14:10, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Transportation in NYC

Hello Oanabay - I noticed your work on the New York City Subway article. You might be interested in the Transportation in New York City sub article. It tells a fascinating story and it's been nominated to be a US Collaboration of the Week after lots of work over the last few weeks. Check it out and if you like it, please vote for it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:USCOTW We need all the votes we can get! Wv235 04:23, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Laugh tracks

This text:

The infamous Hanna-Barbera-created laugh track was added to the soundtrack of *insert show here*. This laugh track is known for sounding especially tinny, and containing less than ten different laughs. Hanna-Barbera useed their home-grown laugh track to their animated shows after 1972 as a cost-saving measure; it was less expensive to add their own chuckles instead of hiring Charley Douglass's company (who added laugh tracks to all the major network shows). Interestingly, Hanna-Barbera's 'limited' chuckles were acutally culled from the same tapes Douglass used.

...appears several articles. It should be placed (only) on the Cartoon Network Studios article, but it needs some referencing first; right now, it appears to be original research. Good work on the other cartoon articles, though--the laugh track thing sort of threw me for a loop when I found it copied and pasted across several articles (such a thing is generally discouraged).--FuriousFreddy 04:18, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

The problem is with the addition of the same exact paragraph with the same exact information to a multitude of articles. If there are pages on specific shows where the info still remains, it needs to be taken out. It would be much better to simply mention that The Such and Such Show had a laugh-track, and go into detail about the laugh track on the laugh track page, where someone who is looking for the information will find it and it appears more relevant. Also, please see Wikipedia:Cite your sources for details on how to format sourcing. --FuriousFreddy 16:50, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Barenaked Ladies editing, again

Once, again since you seem to have deleted this comment and reverted your editing (deleting other people's edits of the BNL article).

Please stop randomly editing the Barenaked Ladies article, making no viable changes. a) If you are going to edit an article, click 'edit this page' at the top of the article, and go through it once making all changes. Clicking 'edit' every time you see an issue causes you to have dozens of edits in the history of the article, which makes reviewing changes more diffucult.

b) Please stop making unnecessary changes to the article in general. There is no reason to change 'the band' to 'BNL' in every instance. It doesn't change anything, and it's actually worse grammar. (Would you read an article about a human saying "Joe Smith went to Monkeyville High School. Joe was in the gifted program there, where Joe met Bob. Joe started hanging out with him and Joe really enjoyed it." There is nothing wrong with calling the band 'the band' or 'they' in the article.

Most of your changes have no substance and seem to be there just to make changes. Like changing 'while and was on a trip to ecuador' to 'while in ecuador'. There is no change in meaning, and what was originally there at least explains why he was in ecuador instead of randomly saying that he was there with no explaination.

Thank You TheHYPO 03:23, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comments from Oanabay04 concerning "Barenaked Ladies editing, again"

TheHYPO - since you have chosen not to be emailed or contacted in any way via Wikipedia, I have to respond this way. I am an English/grammer teacher. In reviewing the Baranaked Ladies entry, sentences are wordy, run-on, and needed some consistency. Tenses are awkward, and most edits I made are indeed minor, but quite viable. The article in general needed to be tighterl; there was no intention to change meanings, as they were clearly stated.

Making the article an easier read makes it gives it substance. This is, of course, a matter of opinion, and you are certainly entitled to yours, as I am to mine. I believe this is what Wikipedia is all about.

I would check your Associated Press Stylebook. Proper sentence structure and shorter, concise sentences add creedence to anything found on this website. My guess is that you are emotionally attached to this article concerning Barenaked Ladies, and become defensive when your work is altered. Your photo additions, however, are good.

Thank you. -Oanabay04

I don't need to be contacted by email. That's why wikipedia has these talk pages, and my talk page is quite open for you to post on if you chose. I would think that a grammar teacher would know that it's not necessary to refer to the proper name of a noun in virtually every sentance and that a preposition is perfectly acceptable. It's also a matter of keeping the article concise, not emotional attachment. for example. In your current edit of, the Steven page article, for example. I have no problem with the change to say 'in the Alternative Girlfriend video', though the reason I didn't put that into the caption of the article is because I was simply using the images to demonstrate his apperance in those time periods, not to specifically highlight those videos. (the video that the images are from are indicated in the summary description of the images if you click on them). The Page article isn't getting out of hand, but the BNL article is getting long (longer than the reccommended wikipedia article size). As such, Additional descriptive sentances can just add clutter.
All the edits you made to Barenaked Ladies in the last round of edits you made are perfectly legitimate edits. But the ones you made before weren't the same kind of edits. They were just edits for the sake of editing (though again, I stress that you should attempt to make your edits all at once, instead of making 6 edits in the course of 6 minutes - not only does it save users confusion in checking the history of articles, it saves wikipedia bandwidth because the site has to archive every edit you make). As for your editing, I can see a significant number of people posting on your discussion page here, that are asking you to reconsider your edits to articles, so with all due respect (and I respect your desire to improve the content in wikipedia), it seems like you have more editing issues overall than I do.
The only other issue I would bring up is that on wikipedia, only the first instance of a word should be wikified by adding double brackets. I would say that the mention of things like Kevin Hearn or One Week in the caption of an image doesn't need to be wikified. TheHYPO 17:11, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

''TheHYPO - you are a dangerous individual. Stay away from me. I will never touch anything related to BNL or their members again. I will be sure to alert anyone else on Wikipedia that you are the BNL guru and that no other edits are allowed without your sole permission. Oanabay04 08:07, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Moon-Spinners

Hi, thanks for adding much excellent material to this article. Could you adjust the commentary to remove personal opinions? On a review website your critique would be welcome, but here we don't review works, we write Neutral point of view articles. This means that one can write about an Oscar-winning performance (or other awards that may have been won), or one highly praised by published critics, but not (for instance) "This boy is a potent source of comedy, without feeling like a forced element or hindering the plot." Even if it's true (and I'm sure it is) it is an expression of your opinion rather than something that can be verified as a fact. --Tony Sidaway 13:33, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Crimin.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Crimin.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:Tommy.older.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Tommy.older.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 14:09, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
