New York State Route 590 is a north-south running extension of Interstate 590 in the close suburbs of Rochester, New York, United States. The southern terminus is at the intersection of Interstate 490 and Interstate 590 in Brighton and Rochester, at the "Can of Worms." The northern terminus is at Culver Road in Irondequoit, near Sea Breeze (the western shore of Irondequoit Bay at Lake Ontario).

NY 590 forms one segment of the northeast quadrant of the Rochester Outer Loop. The other segment is composed of NY 104 between NY 590 and the Genesee River, where NY 104 crosses into the northwest quadrant.

After emerging from the Can of Worms, NY 590 follows the old route of NY 47 north along the eastern border of Rochester. The route generally maintains a north-northwest alignment for its expressway portion, but breaks from this alignment north of Titus Avenue. From this point, the route swerves to the northeast to its terminus at Culver Road.

NY 590 is unusual in that it is an expressway that features both separated grade interchanges and at-grade intersections.

NY 590 from I-490 to NY 104 was formerly known as NY 47. The NY 47 designation was decommissioned in 1980 following the completion of the Rochester Outer Loop, a series of expressways that form a beltway around the city of Rochester.

As of mid-2006, funding has been secured to convert NY 590 north of Ridge Road from a four-lane, 55-mph expressway (albeit with at-grade intersections) to a two-lane (separated), lower-speed parkway with roundabouts instead of traditional intersections.

Many movements are restricted on NY 590 southbound. For example:

Traffic coming onto NY 590 southbound from Blossom Road cannot access exit 5 due to the reconfiguration of the exit 5 (left exit) flyover as part of the Can of Worms reconstruction from 1988 to 1991 which placed the ramp north of the Blossom Road onramp to allow for a smooth ascent on the flyover.
Traffic coming onto NY 590 southbound from East Ridge Road cannot access either NY 104 or Norton Street nor can traffic leave NY 590 until exit 8 (NY 404).
