New Vision is one of two main national newspapers in Uganda.
Established in the 1980s by the government, a stake of about 80% of the newspaper is state-owned. New Vision is broadly sympathetic to the government of President Yoweri Museveni. On 12 October 2006, William Pike, who had been managing director for 20 years, departed. Pike was largely credited with maintaining a degree of editorial independence for the newspaper, though not as much as the fully independent The Monitor, the second national paper of Uganda. Pike's departure was followed by the appointment of Ugandan government spokesman Robert Kabushenga as Chief Executive Officer.
