Talk:Narus

(someone) wrote on the article page: Most of this text was taken from some news web page, which needs to be cited as a source and the page brought into line with Wikipedia standards. Note that also much of this text is a mixture of copyright article editorial, and fair usage of the company's own product information and publications
Explanation: Although the article was apparently originally created by "Frap", the current bulk of the article was uploaded by "Bewert" who happens to be the author of said "copyrighted editorial" from the DailyKOS article. (I know this because I asked him via email to add information to Wikipedia.) I did this because I initially found nothing about Narus, or by default, the Narus 6400 which his article for the DailyKos referred to.
So resolving the copyright issues of the DailyKOS source, (= user "Bewert" was also author of that article,) as the commenter more correctly stated, much of the material included in THAT article (and included here) does indeed seem to be of the company's own product information and publications and is therefore covered by fair usage, IMHO. dowser 02:57, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, what's needed is definitive confirmation by or from the actual copyright-holder that the material that was on DailyKos etc is being released into the public domain, or else that the article is rewritten somewhat to not use quite so much "mass copying" from that source. if "Bewert" will post here that he wrote the DailyKos article and he releases its text into the public domain for Wikipedia use, that's fine. Otherwise we have to just rewrite it, it's not a big deal either way.
- Second, it needs to be adapted for encyclopedia use, that means, neutral and informative representation of the company and product, rather than "news editorial style".

- bewert here, yes I am the author of the original article (actually a Dkos diary linked at the bottom) and give full permission for this to be copied, talked about, forwarded, or whatever else you can think of to make this story more widely known. I just added an external link to actual docs from Mark Klein released by Wired. And thanks for cleaning it up to Wiki standards! I just threw my diary up, with very few changes, at the request of a DKos reader

A recent editor removed the DKos blog link. I'd like to know why this is "non WP"? This is a top, (often #1), blog and arguably the "Narus" came into the public consciousness thru a newsworthy story produced for that blog. More to the point perhaps is that this article was CREATED because of that blog entry... with other references to Narus noticeably lacking on the WWW. Possibly this editor was not aware of this. I am reverting that link assuming the latter. dowser 02:24, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
