MUL-T-LOCK is a high security lock system that was originally designed by Avraham Bahry and Moshe Dolev in Israel in 1973[1]. Mul-T-Lock is the globes largest high security lock manufacturer with presence on 5 continents and in over 100 countries. Today it is in widespread use by residential, business and transportation customers.
Mul-T-Lock achieves it's high security status, by maintaining the three constant elements of high security locking solutions; 1) Physical Security Standards 2) Standing Operating procedures 3) Restricted key machine controls
Physical security standards include global high security ratings, such as UL437, CEN and VSK gradings. Additionally, physical security standards are acheived with high grade product components and longevity benchmarks.
Standard operating procedures, include, patent protection, key control features and legally binding covenants with Mul-T-Lock authorized dealers.
Restricted key machine control is acheived by Mul-T-Lock manufacturing and distributing their own key machines. The key machines are serial numbered, and operated with a high security Mul-T-Lock key and lock.
MUL-T-LOCK Interactive keys use dimple key indentations and utilize floating pins (see below).
The selling point of MUL-T-LOCK locks and keys apart from being harder to pick is the control that the manufacturer has over key duplication. The company uses a system called Interactive® keyway[2]. This system uses key blanks that have three levels of security:
1. Locksmith Restricted Interactive Keyway
This key (see picture) has dimple indentations AND floating pins. The key also come with the 'DO NOT DUPLICATE' instruction and you also receive a 'personal card' with the key that enables a person to obtain duplicates. In this case the number near the hilt of the key (236) is specific to one lock smith only in your city or town. Locksmiths will refuse to duplicate these keys without a card. Locksmiths who do are liable to a $10,000 fine from the MUL-T-LOCK company.
2. Factory Restricted Keyway
These keys cannot be cut by any locksmith and can only be duplicated by a MUL-T-LOCK factory. They are the most secure keys in the Interactive® mechanical keyway system.
3. Interactive Cliq keyway.
The Interactive Cliq system integrates both mechanical and electro-mechanical locking elements in these wireless cylinders and locks. Cliq locks and keys have full time zone and audit capabilities.
