Mukriyan

Mukriyan, is a region within Eastern Kurdistan encompassing numerous cities such as Mahabad, Piranshahr, Sardasht, Bukan, Oshnaviyeh, Miandoab, Naghadeh and Shahindej. This region is officially part of the West Azarbaijan Province in Iran. Majority of the population of this region except in Miandoab and Naghadeh are Kurds from the Mukri tribe.
Towards the end of 15th century, Mukri tribes conquered this region and ruled it until the middle of 19th century. The region is famous for its unique granite rock formations with the majority being found near Piranshahr.
