- Jim Carrey came to the ceremony that evening in disguise, looking very much like the late Jim Morrison. The producers of the show have said they had no idea it was Carrey until he stood up to accept his award. During his speech, he accepted the award "on behalf of my new biker friends"; he also said "there's some fine lookin' pussy in this room tonight" and, still in character, implored MTV to play more rock music, asking "would it kill you to play a little Foghat?"
