This template is used by WikiProject Mountains to build the infobox. The infobox needs to be started either by this template for an article that has a photo or Template:Mtnbox start nopic for an article without a photo.

¢ I notice that in the pre template (actual page) the data is annointed with [[]]. I am inclinde to think that this could be done in the template, and the unannointed value appear on the actual page. The only I can think is when the state or country in unknown. (or there are two states sharing a mountain). But I think a template could even handle this. ¢

It is really necessary to have Category:Mountains by Elevation (km) here ? I think it can be easily nominated under WP:CFD for same reasons as (now deleted) "Category:Books by title". - Darwinek 11:09, 30 August 2005 (UTC)

Anyone else not keen on the colons following "Elevation", "Location", "Range" and other the feature names in subsequent Mtnbox templates? Regards, David Kernow 01:00, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Any major structural changes...
If there are any major structural changes to this template/series of templates (especially if some consensus about the use or not of Qif etc emerges), could a similar change, or at least suggestion of change, be made to Template:Lakebox start (and, if appropriate, its accompanying template series)? I am not a template maestro, so I've just blatantly copied this series for my own purposes, and if there is some dispute going on (as I fear there is) about what to do in cases where e.g. not all parameters occur all the time (very definitely the case for lakes!) then the templates I have made will have the same glitches as any version of the mountain templates I have copied. - Well, there's generally two ways to "hide" things in templates. You can use hiddenStructure (WP:HIDE), or you can use Qif conditionals (WP:QIF). I (and others) strongly discourage the use of hiddenStructure because it doesn't work in all situations (and, when the software Wikipedia runs on includes conditionals it'll be easier to replace instances Qif than to replace instances of hiddenStructure). You can see some examples of how hiddenStructure doesn't work at Don't use hiddenStructure.
- By the way, I think you should avoid multiple templates like this (at least if possible). It can make it confusing for new editors to try and use them. With that in mind, I'll try and put together an infobox that emulates the behavior of the templates you're using now and see what you think. =) —Locke Cole • t • c 22:20, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- As far as I know, there is not a controversy within the Mountains WikiProject --- Locke Cole suggested unifying the template, I asked some questions and responded positively, and no one else said anything.
