[edit] Plot
A bus rolls down a long, windy hilly road, and on board are Meenakshi Iyer (Konkona Sen Sharma) and her 9-month old son Santhanam. Also on board is Raja Chowdhary (Rahul Bose), a Muslim wildlife photographer, introduced to Meenakshi prior to boarding the bus by a mutual friend. Since Meenakshi is travelling alone with her young child on the bus, Raja is given the responsibility of looking after them both, sitting next to them on the bus. The other passengers assume they are a couple. The bus is suddenly stopped by an angry mob of Hindu extremists looking for Muslims and Raja is under threat. The film explores the strict norms that orthodox religious people observe, and the compromises they may feel compelled to make because of these. Brought up in a strict Brahmin Hindu Iyer family, Meenakshi is shocked to learn of Raja's background, and initially tries to distance herself from him, but after witnessing the violence, protects Raja. She introduces Raja and herself to the mob as husband and wife - Mr. and Mrs. Iyer. As they are forced to spend time with each other, both start to develop forbidden feelings towards each other and an unspoken bond grows between them. Where is this journey going to lead "Mr. and Mrs. Iyer"?
